Sweet Canine Duo Hope Third Times a Charm

After losing their home, and then each other, Venus & Zeke seek a home together.

Well hi there, folks! I’m Venus, the one who loves tennis balls, and this is my son, Zeke. I’m 12 years old, and he’s 11 years old, and we have been together Zeke’s entire life. You would think a couple of dogs like us would spend our golden years lounging around with our “parents”, but alas, it was not meant to be.

See, our “mom” passed away, leaving our “dad” with just us for company. But without mom’s social security checks, dad couldn’t keep up with the mortgage on the house, and he eventually was foreclosed on. And despite wanting to take us with, he could not find a single place to live where we could go with him. Dad had to drop us off at a place called “the pound”, and we didn’t understand why he was crying so hard. He called to check on us every day, and the staff was so enamored with us, and felt so bad for our dad, that they worked extra hard to get us out of the pound alive. But after waiting weeks and weeks for someone to adopt a pair of larger, older dogs like us, no one came forward, and we were in grave danger. That’s when Young at Heart Pet Rescue agreed to take us into their adoption program!

We didn’t know how lucky we were to get a second chance, as the pound was pretty far from Young at Heart! But because we had to wait for a ride, a volunteer from the pound let us stay at her house. And well, Zeke freaked out a little bit, and decided to try and get back home. But instead, he was lost for three weeks. And I, Venus, being his best friend and his mom, was worried sick. We had never been separated before, and though this second home was temporary, they already loved us.  Over three weeks, many people looked far and wide for Zeke, and finally he was captured and brought back to me. Thankfully, that boy learned his lesson, and he hasn’t left my side for a moment since. Escaping should never cross his mind again!

So, a little bit about us! I, Venus, am a 12-year-old lab mix who is as sweet as can be, and as you can see, I have a thing for tennis balls. I LOVE tennis balls. I like to walk with them, and swim with them, and sleep next to them. They’re like my security blanket! But a fun security blanket! Tennis balls are always ready to play! I am a fantastic girl who gets along great with other dogs, doesn’t bother the cats, and enjoys kids. I am housebroken and love to look out the windows to see what’s going on outside. I’m a healthy girl overall, and have just finished treatment for Heartworm. Heartworm is not contagious from dog to dog, but is transmitted by mosquitoes. I love to swim and go for car rides, snuggle up next to you in the house, and of course, play ball! I am also mother to Zeke, and we must be adopted together!

Zeke, is an 11-year-old lab mix. He’s a very sweet and laid back boy, and lets me have all the tennis balls since I love them so much. He prefers stuffed squeaky toys anyway! Like me, he is housebroken and good with other dogs, and enjoys kids. We love to go for walks, and we are very easy to walk – you can walk both of us in one hand! He is also being treated for Heartworm, and has one more treatment to go before any adoption can be official, but is healthy otherwise. He is blind in one eye, but that doesn’t slow him down nor does it require any special treatment! He enjoys fluffy beds and hanging out in sunny spots in the backyard. He loves to be my shadow though, so wherever I am, Zeke is right there beside me. We are looking for a fantastic home to retire in. Would you adopt us? We deserve a great home together!

We would be excellent companions for a retired person or someone who is home a lot, since we really enjoy being with our people.  We’re both up-to-date on my vaccinations, altered, and microchipped. Our adoption fee of $200 for the pair of us allows Young at Heart Pet Rescue to help other older dogs and cats like us get a second chance at a happily ever after. Just fill out an adoption application to arrange a visit.
