Local fast-food favorite, Palatine’s Hot Dog Richie’s (HDR) was inducted into the exclusive Vienne Beef Hot Dog Hall of Fame on Tuesday, April 22, 2014.

Vienna Beef Senior Vice President Bob Schwartz presented Hot Dog Richie’s owner, Jason Marzullo, with the accolade, which acknowledges a more than 40-year relationship the restaurant has had with Vienna Beef.

“Hot Dog stands outlive the national average for restaurants, and are a very important part of the community-you mention Vienna Beef and people remember their favorite hot dog stand, and in Palatine and the surrounding areas, that place is Hot Dog Richie’s,” Schwartz said.

Marzullo took over ownership of Hot Dog Richie’s in 1999, and is the fourth owner of the business located on Northwest Highway and Colfax near the heart of downtown Palatine.

“Jason has an extreme passion for his business, as well as supporting the Palatine community – from Palatine Amateur Football, Palatine Celtic Soccer, and charitable causes including a second, upcoming fundraiser for 9-year-old Palatine resident Rosie Colucci who suffers from an inoperable brain tumor,” Schwartz said.

Among the Vienna products cooked-up to order at HDR are Vienna beef, hot dogs, corned beef, polish sausage and pastrami. Other customer favorites include HDR thin crust pizza (voted best sausage pizza in a recent Palatine Jaycees pizza contest), hamburgers, gyros, chicken pitas and more, to accommodate all tastes.

“Vienna Beef proudly recognizes Jason Marzullo and the staff at Hot Dog Richie’s for exceptional quality, personality and hospitality that make them an ideal candidate for our recognition program,” Schwartz said. “We are proud to welcome this business into our exclusive Vienna Beef Hot Dog Hall of Fame,” Schwartz said.

The Vienna Beef Hall of Fame was established by the company in 2004, and was created to recognize area restaurants that not only have carried Vienna products, but are a positive and supportive members of the communities they exist in.
