Palatine Emergency Management Agency Members Receive State Accreditation

Palatine EMA volunteers receive Illiniois Professional Emergency Management (IPEM) certification.

On September 4th, 2012 Illinois Emergency Management Agency Director, Jonathon Monken, and Illinois Emergency Services Management Association (IESMA) President, Russ Thomas presented several members of the Palatine Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), with their seal for successfully completing the application process to renew their Illinois Professional Emergency Manager Accreditation Program (IPEM) certificate.

Among those from Palatine EMA receiving their renewal were Diane Logsdon, EMA Assistant Coordinator Joe Lance and EMA Coordinator Tom Smith.  Additionally, EMA volunteer Mike Ilczyszyn received his IPEM certification for the first time.

Referencing the IPEM, the IEMA website explains, "The IPEM was established to provide an education and training standard for those involved in the emergency management field. The IPEM will also assist county and municipal administrators by providing a framework to use in evaluating individuals applying for positions in their emergency management program. This will offer them the best chance of hiring the most qualified applicant."

IPEM certification is the highest distinction that  can be received by an emergency management professional or volunteer from the State of Illinois. Rigid requirements must be met including classroom and on line training courses covering a wide variety of emergency management related subjects and documentation identifying that they served in a lead role during a preparedness exercise or a real event.
