Palatine, Other Municipalities Forced to Approve Prevailing Wage

Palatine Village Councilman Scott Lamerand brings light to unfunded mandate that forced a 25 percent increase in the village budget.

The Village of Palatine, along with all municipalities across the state, is required to approve as part of their annual budgets, paying prevailing wages to fund all capital projects.

Scott Lamerand, District 2 councilman for the Village of Palatine, highlighted at this week's council meeting, the stress that this state mandate adds to the village budget.

“We are mandated by the state to accept prevailing wage,” Lamerand said. “Because of this, it costs us 25 percent more for capital projects on any type of work we have to do."
