Palatine Business Briefs: New Grocery Store, Mexican Restaurant; Downtown Eatery Open Late

New Ethnic Grocery Store

Palatine approved plans at its July 9 meeting for a new ethnic grocery store that will be located at 1500 W. Algonquin Road.

Mediterranean Grocery and Deli will be located in the Harper Plaza strip mall, alongside a hair salon, animal grooming, pizzeria and driving school. The 1,000 square foot store will sell Mediterranean and Turkish products, and will employee two people. The proposed hours of operation are Monday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Pizzeria Switches to Mexican Restaurant

Palatine approved plans at its June 25 meeting to transfer a special use permit for the continued operation of a restaurant located at 1540 N. Rand Road.

George Maldonado asked the village council to approve plans that called for changing Tony’s Pizza Peddlers to a full-service Mexican restaurant. The business is located in the Williams Reserve Commercial Center, and was granted a special use permit to Nikolai V. Chavoulev for a pizza restaurant in 2006. There are no changes to the floor plan and will be called El Patron Restaurant

Proposed hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.

JJ Peppers Gives Up Liquor License

As On Occasion Catering is no longer in operation and JJ Peppers does not wish to renew its liquor license, the village removed the liquor licenses for both establishments at its June 25 meeting.

The owner of On Occasion Catering, located at 1276 E. Dundee Road, has relocated out of the Village and has not renewed their business or liquor licenses. Also, the owner of JJ Peppers, located at 44 W. Illinois Avenue, does not wish to renew the liquor license, however, the business will remain open.

Rock N Roll A la Mode Extends Hours into Late Night

The village council approved extending the operating hours for , at its July 9 meeting. 

After initially remodeling the former Gumbo a Go Go space and having their grand opening, the owners, Tyler and Janice Holcomb, asked to extend their hours on Friday and Saturday until 3 a.m. to capture the late-night business. The ice cream and eatery does not have a liquor license. Owners indicated they would have at least two staff members over the age of 21 working, plus the owner present for these extended hours. Also, they may hire an off-duty police hour to provide additional security during these extended hours.
