The Palatine District Board voted last month to rename baseball and soccer fields at Hamilton Reservoir after its former executive director, Ron Gbur, according to the Daily Herald.
Gbur served as the park district's executive director from 2002 through 2012. He first started with the park district in 1981.
Gbur is credited with helping to get the Falcon Park Recreation Center — a 49,000-square-foot facility with a indoor turf field, gymnasium and walking track—built in Palatine.
The facility won the 2010 Outstanding Facility of the Year Award at the Illinois Parks and Recreation annual conference, according to the Illinois Association of Park Districts' website.
Other accomplishments Gbur is credited with include the renovation of the Community Center Fitness Center, the remodeling of Birchwood Pool, the installation of a skate park in Community Park and the Disc Golf Course at Margreth Riemer Reservoir, according to Ilinois Associaton of Park Districts' website.
