Regional Crime Report: Manhunt For Murder Suspect, Dead Body Found and More

Palatine

May 17

A no-bond has been obtained by the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department for Vidal Rodriguez, aka “Chi-Town”, of the 80 block of Carriage Hill Road in Wheeling, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Thursday.

Rodriguez, 20, is wanted for an located near the southeast corner of Lake-Cook Road and IL Route 53 in Unincorporated Palatine Township.

He has previous arrests in his history and is a member of the Maniac Latin Disciples. Rodriguez is believed to be with a girlfriend, Corina Velazquez-Gonzalez, 17, of Wheeling, who was .

Grayslake

May 17

Seventh-grade students from Prairie Crossing Charter School in Grayslake .

The students were with teachers and chaperones in Devil’s Lake State Park in Wisconsin May 17 when someone found a purse at the top of a cliff. They looked over the edge and discovered a body below at the cliff base. Park Rangers eventually confirmed that a but would not speculate as to cause of death.

Authorities said her body was found at the bottom of a 100-foot overlook. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The Thursday. The school has counselors available for students.

Libertyville

May 15

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin announced May 15 that after a one-day bench trial, Judge George Bakalis has for carving anti-African American sentiments on a window ledge outside an Elmhurst College dormitory room in December 2011.

On Dec. 8, at approximately 11:25 p.m., Burton approached the dormitory located at 190 S. Prospect and damaged the window ledge by carving racial epitaphs, including “KKK” and “Negro,” among other things, into the ledge, said Berlin.

An investigation into the matter by the Elmhurst Police Department led to Burton, who was arrested the next day without incident. On Dec. 29, 2011, a DuPage County Grand Jury indicted Burton on one count of Hate Crime, a Class 3 felony punishable by probation or up to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Burton’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 19 for return of the pre-sentence report.

Buffalo Grove

April 10

A company official on the 1200 block of Barclay Boulevard reported that someone hacked into the company’s Internet phone service and made numerous calls to Afghanistan and one to Spain. The calls totaled $948.06.

May 13

Someone took the lighted fountain between 9 p.m. May 13 and 7 a.m. May 14 from a pond on the 1200 block of Deerfield Parkway. The fountain and associated equipment is valued at $8,072.15.

May 11

A resident of the 900 block of Aspen Drive returned home from vacation and found that someone had left a number of plastic bags containing dog feces in her front yard. The resident did not know who may have done that, but she has had an argument with a neighbor whose dog defecated in her yard.

May 11

While on patrol at 11:40 p.m. in the 300 block of Horatio Boulevard, an officer noted a large mailbox that had been blown up by an unknown explosive device. No one was home at the residence and the officer left a note.
