Police Say Woman Was 'Huffing' Before Causing Two-Car Crash

A 19-year-old Palatine woman is facing charges after police said she caused a two-car accident when she passed out after "huffing" cleaning chemicals while driving.

At 9:28 p.m. Saturday, April 28, Karli M. Casey, 19, of Palatine, was driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer eastbound on the Northwest Highway when she crossed over into the westbound lanes and struck a 2006 Honda Accord that was westbound in the curb lane, according to a news release from the . The crash occurred at First Bank Drive and the Northwest Highway.

Officers were told that Casey had been “huffing” the contents of an aerosol keyboard cleaner immediately before the accident. Casey was transported by the Palatine Fire Department to St. Alexius Hospital in Hoffman Estates, and after being released she gave a verbal and written statement admitting to “huffing” the contents of the aerosol can.

The Palatine Fire Department also transported her two passengers, a 20-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman, both from Palatine, to Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove.

The driver of the Honda Accord, a 41-year-old man, and his passenger, an 84-year-old woman who suffered life-threatening injuries, were transported to Northwest Community Hospital.

Casey was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of an intoxicating compound, improper lane use, and no proof of insurance. She was transported to the 3rd District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows on Monday for a bond hearing.
