Police Say Woman Was 'Huffing' Before Causing Two-Car Crash

Karli M. Casey, 19, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of an intoxicating compound, improper lane use and no proof of insurance.

A 19-year-old Palatine woman is facing charges after police said she caused a two-car accident when she passed out after "huffing" cleaning chemicals while driving.

At 9:28 p.m. Saturday, April 28, Karli M. Casey, 19, of Palatine, was driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer eastbound on the Northwest Highway when she crossed over into the westbound lanes and struck a 2006 Honda Accord that was westbound in the curb lane, according to a news release from the . The crash occurred at First Bank Drive and the Northwest Highway.

Officers were told that Casey had been “huffing” the contents of an aerosol keyboard cleaner immediately before the accident. Casey was transported by the Palatine Fire Department to St. Alexius Hospital in Hoffman Estates, and after being released she gave a verbal and written statement admitting to “huffing” the contents of the aerosol can.

The Palatine Fire Department also transported her two passengers, a 20-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman, both from Palatine, to Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove.

The driver of the Honda Accord, a 41-year-old man, and his passenger, an 84-year-old woman who suffered life-threatening injuries, were transported to Northwest Community Hospital.

Casey was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of an intoxicating compound, improper lane use, and no proof of insurance. She was transported to the 3rd District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows on Monday for a bond hearing.

So stupid Karli was released on minor charges, but the 84 year old woman "suffered life threatening injuries". What's wrong with this picture??? God wants you on this earth for a long time, but people with no earthly use to society can wipe them out. Yuk!!!

So how come this girl gets her hand slapped. I agree with Patricia above. This is outrageous!!!!

Clearly you both did not read that right. Karli was released from the hospital, not jail. I pray for all those hurt in this terrible accident. Something definitely needs to be done about this.

She is still in jail, she will most likely be charged with vehicular homicide or man slaughter

John clearly you do not know 20,000 bail is NOT to leave a hospital...
Janet W May 03, 2012 at 03:49 PM

She is in jail!!! You do NOT know why this girl is soo lost. Please, do not judge. This is a nightmare. Pray for both parties involved. She will be punished, no doubt. If u have kids, talk to them. Karli was thy typical, good student until her patents split. Please, just pray.

Kinda crazy that two girls named Carly (or Karli) from the Northwest Suburbs both have killed innocent people from huffing and driving. See this article from Highland Park patch if you haven't read about it yet... Quite an example they're setting. Do your drugs at home girls and don't get in your car, no one needs to die from your reckless choices.
