Palatine Police Blotter: Stolen Engagement Ring

June 21, 2012

A bike was stolen from an outside porch in the 500 block of East Spruce Drive sometime between June 20 at 6 p.m. and June 21 at 9:15 p.m. The bike, a hot pink Mongoose valued at $150, was assumed to be locked.

A white 1999 Toyota SUV was burglarized sometime between 6:45 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. in the 300 block of Macarthur Drive. The vehicle was parked on the street was was possibly left unlocked. Taken was a set of golf clubs valued at $200, a black Nike golf bag valued at $100 and a yellow and black tool bag containing miscellaneous tools valued at $600.

A grey 1992 Oldsmobile sedan was burglarized sometime between 9:30 p.m. June 21 and 4:45 a.m. June 22 in the 600 block of Walden Drive. An unknown tool was used to open the driver’s side door. Taken was a prescription containing 29 pills valued at $200 and $2.

A green 1999 Mazda four-door car was burglarized sometime between 10:30 p.m. and 11:10 a.m. in the 2100 North block of Westmoreland Road. The car was unlocked. Taken was a brown leather purse and a wallet.

June 23, 2012

A chainsaw and leaf blower were stolen from an unlocked shed in the 900 block of North Rowling Road sometime between June 16 and June 23 at 10 p.m., while the owner was on vacation.

A bike was stolen from an open garage in the 1500 block of West Ethans Glen Drive sometime between June 18 and June 23 at 7 a.m. The bike was a grey and white GT Avalanche valued at $800.

Keith A. Kretschmar, 53, of Cary, was charged with DUI after being stopped at a roadside safety checkpoint in the 1200 block of West Algonquin Road at 1:39 a.m.

June 25, 2012

A home in the 2200 block of North Baldwin Way was burglarized sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Residents said the doors were locked when they left in the morning, but were unlocked when they returned home. Taken was a Sony Playstation valued at $350, a diamond engagement ring valued at $2,500, Blueray DVDs, Playstation video games and a Canon digital camera.

A home in the 1100 block of East Nichols Road was burglarized sometime between 7:25 a.m. and 7 p.m. The front door was locked by the residents in the morning, but was discovered partially open when they returned home. Several electronics and jewelry at an unknown value were missing.
