Palatine Police Blotter: $3,800 Residential Burglary, Shattered Windshield

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

A victim heard a loud slam and discovered the windshield of their 2005 Ford sedan was shattered on April 10 at 10:45 p.m. in the 100 block of S. Ashland Ave.

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

Two car burglaries were reported in Birchwood Park, 435 W. Illinois Ave., on April 17 between 5:30 p.m. and 11:18 p.m. Unknown offenders smashed the rear driver's side windows of a 2010 Honda sedan and a 2006 Toyota sedan. Items taken from the Toyota include a tote bag, personal clothing and a make-up/toiletries bag, and an Apple iPad ($350), a Coach purse ($200), Coach wallet/contents ($100) a ski jacket and $20 in U.S. currency. Damage estimates on the driver's side windows were not immediately available.

Residential Burglary

A residential burglary was reported in the 3800 block of N. Bayside Dr. on April 22 between 3:30 a.m. and 7:50 a.m. The method of entry appears to be the front door with some type of pry tool. Taken was $3,300 in U.S. currency, a Sony camcorder ($350), a Sony DVD player ($150), a Hewlett-Packard desktop computer (unknown value), a Samsung laptop computer (unknown value) approximately 200 DVD's, a leather jacket and a red bag. 

Retail Theft

Trevor SS, Mimms, 19, of the 500 block of Spruce Dr. was charged with local ordinance retail theft after removing the contents of two bottles of Zyrtec ($33.54) from Walmart, 1555 N. Rand Rd. on April 20 at 3 p.m. Loss prevention at Walmart observed Mimms empty the pills into a folded piece of paper and exiting the store within paying for the medicine. 

Driving Under the Influence

Maria F. Lopez, 24, of the 1200 block of Woodbury Ln. was charged with DUI on April 17 at 2:29 a.m. in the 1500 block of northbound Rand Rd. Lopez also was charged with having a blood alcohol content of more than .08, no insurance, illegal transportation of alcohol and having no driver's license on her person. 

Christina Hansen, 44, of the 0-100 block of N. Quentin Rd. was charged with DUI on April 18 at 2:25 a.m. on southbound Rand Rd. at Williams. Hansen also was charged with having a blood alcohol content of more than .08 and improper lane usage.
