Palatine Police Blotter: $23K in Stolen Tools, Duffle Bags Ruffled Through

Theft

A red 18-drawer tool box containing miscellaneous tools was taken from a locked basement storage area in the 300 block of N. Brockway St. sometime between May 31 5p.m. and June 5 at 5 p.m. The storage area  had a secured padlock, which was missing when the police report was taken. Also taken was an impact gun, valued at $20,000.

A child's red and blue Schwinn bicycle ($70) was taken from the rear of a residential home in the 700 block of W. Peder Ln. sometime between June 3 at 8 p.m. and June 4 at 4 p.m. The bicycle was not locked up at the time of the theft. 

An iPhone4S and headphones were taken from a duffle bag left unattended on the bleachers at Falcon Park Recreation Center, 2195 N. Hicks Rd. on June 9 between 4:30 p.m and 5 p.m. 

A red duffle bag with a Toyota emblem on it was taken from a room near the front of the Buehler YMCA, 1400 W. Northwest Hwy. on June 10 between 6:40 p.m. and 7 p.m. In the bag, which was unattended, were miscellaneous CD's, ID's, swimsuits, goggles and beach towels.

Retail Theft

Loss prevention at WalMart, 1555 N. Rand Rd. observed two subjects take magic cards and pass through the point of sale without paying on June 8 between 11:05 pm and 11:08 p.m. Thomas Allen-Lowe, 22, of the 1500 block of Quaker Ln. Prospect Heights, and 19-year-old Matthew Steinborn of the 1300 block of Sterling Ave. Palatine were arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft. 

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

A rear cargo area of a white Ford box truck was entered sometime between June 5 at 8 p.m. and June 6 at 7:15 a.m. in the 100 block of N. Greenwood Ave. Taken were several power tools, valued at $3,600. 

An Alpine stereo was taken from the dashboard of a Nissan sedan parked in the 200 block of N. Clark Dr. sometime between June 6 at 11 p.m. and June 7 at 6:45 a.m. Damage to the dashboard totaling $750 was caused and there were no signs of forced entry. 

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

The sunroof of a black 2004 Toyota SUV that was parked in the 1100 block of N. Sterling Ave. sometime between June 5 at 8 a.m. and June 6 at 4 p.m. The sunroof was pried open and when the victim was driving, it was blown off its track causing the glass to shattered, causing $3,000 in damage. 

Driving Under the Influence

Uver S. Gutuerriez, 23, of the 1900 blick of N. Green Ln., Palatine, was arrested  for DUI on June 8 at 3:34 a.m. in the 1500 block of N. Rand Rd. Gutuerriez also was charged with DUI with a blood alcohol content of more than .08 and Illegal Transportation of Alcohol.
