Palatine Man Dead In Mundelein Murder-Suicide

Mundelein police say that a Palatine man killed a 22-year-old woman and then took his own life early Wednesday.

A Palatine man killed a 22-year-old woman and then took his own life moments later, Mundelein police said.

Gennadiy Plaksa, 44, of the 700 block of East Rand Grove Lane in Palatine was found a few blocks away from the crime scene. Plaksa was dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

The incident began at 1:37 a.m. The police department received a call from a woman at the home in the 1300 block of Newport Street in Mundelein. The caller said that a woman was lying in the garage unconscious.

Police arrived at the home by 1:40 a.m. and determined that the woman, Alina S. Rybnikova, was dead. Rydnikova lived at the residence with her mother and a 24-year-old roommate, the Chicago Tribune reported. The Tribune reported that Rydnikova's mother was injured in the attack.

Plaksa was found in a vehicle about 300 feet north of the townhome dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Palatine police said that they had not had any prior contact with Plaksa.

The Lake County Coroner's office will be conducting autopsies on Plaksa and Rybnikova.
