Palatine Crime: Fraud, Theft and More

Theft 

Some time between 7:30 and 10:45 p.m. on Oct. 15, at Falcon Park Recreation Center, 2195 N. Hicks Road, an unknown offender took a victim’s Apple iPhone from a gym bag that was left unattended on the bleachers.

On Oct. 16, the owner of a tan woman’s purse containing a cell phone valued at $50, a make-up bag, a day planner and sunglasses, discovered their purse was missing after shopping at Walgreens, 805 W. Euclid Avenue.

Some time between 7:10 a.m. and 6 p.m., on Oct. 16, at the Palatine Train Station, 137 W. Wood St., an unknown offender cut the lock off of a brown Raleigh 15-speed bike valued at $280 and removed it from a bike rack. The cut black cable lock was found in the nearby bushes.

Criminal Damage to Property

Some time between 8 p.m., Oct. 18, and 7:30 a.m., Oct. 19, in the 1300 block of Park Ave., an unknown offender used brute force to damage a residential mailbox, and spread dog feces on the front sidewalk.

Some time between 12:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., Oct. 19, in the 0 to 100 block of north Linden Avenue, an unknown offender dented the wood siding on a victim’s house, striking it with a piece of firewood.

Some time between 6 p.m., Oct. 18 and 7:30 a.m., Oct. 19 in the 300 west block of Slade St., an unknown offender used brute force to knock over a parkway tree, causing it to snap just above its base.

Fraud

Some time between Sept. 18 and Oct. 15, in the 1500 north block of King George Ct., a subscriber of a satellite TV service discovered they were deceived by an unknown offender resulting in a loss of $300. The victim reported they were contacted via email and phone by someone they believed worked for the TV service company. The victim was offered and accepted upgraded with no monthly fees for two years by paying a $300 service upgrade fee. The fee was paid by a cash deposit into the offender’s bank account. The victim later contacted their service provider and learned there was no such promotion being offered. The incident is under investigation. 

Driving Under the Influence

Jordan T. Nichols, 29, of the 1900 north block of Hicks Road, was charged at 1:25 a.m., Oct. 18, near the intersection of North Hicks and Northwest Highway with driving under the influence, disobeying a traffic control device, improper lane usage, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to notify secretary of state of change of address.
