Palatine Blotter: Man Leaps on Car, Smashes Windshield
The following information was taken from Palatine police reports.
March 24
Stephen A. Hamontree, 26, of Palatine, was charged with felony retail theft after allegedly taking about $729 worth of DVDs from Walmart, 1555 N. Rand Rd. Police said Hamontree entered Walmart with a black and green bag under his shirt, went to the DVD section and loaded the cart with DVDs. Police said he then went to a clothing area, used a shirt to cover up the cart and placed the DVDs in the bag and inside a sweatshirt he was wearing. Police were called and Hamontree was arrested after foot chase. He also was charged with resisting a police officer.

Grecia Delarosa, 19, of Palatine was charged with possession of cannabis after a traffic stop about 10:36 p.m. near the intersection of Dundee Road and Baldwin. Police said they found 11 grams of marijuana on Delarosa. Delarosa was a passenger in the vehicle.

Jose Diaz, 18, of Palatine, was charged with felony burglary to motor vehicle. Police said the victim owned a white 2006 Hyundai Tiburon. Police said the victim had received a ride to the 400 block of Wilke Road where the Tiburon was parked and saw someone waist deep inside the driver's side of the vehicle. The driver's side window of the vehicle had been smashed. Police said the victim confronted the individual who ran away and got in a car. The victim was able to get a license plate number of the vehicle, and Diaz was later charged. Taken from the vehicle was a Garmin GPS unit valued at $150, a Cobra radar detector valued at $125, a Blackberry phone valued at $50 and various other items.
March 27
Zbigniew K. Cegielski, 46, of Arlington Heights, was charged with retail theft after an incident at Walmart, 1555 N. Rand Rd. Police said Cegielski allegedly placed four boxes of collectible sports cards in a cart, cut the boxes open, and placed some of the cards in his pockets. Police said he attempted to leave without paying for the cards.
March 27
Nick W. Marchand, 26, Palatine, was charged with criminal damage to property after an incident that occured at 4:04 a.m. in the parking lot of Durty Nellies, 180 N. Smith St. Police said the victim was driving slowly through Nellies' parking lot. Police said the victim saw Marchand and Marchand saw the victim. Police said Marchand ran and jumped onto the hood of the victim's 2002 Jeep Wrangler, shattering the windshield.
