No One Hurt In Metra Crash

A Metra train headed for Crystal Lake struck a vehicle near Quentin Road.

Palatine Police have cited the driver whose car was clipped by a Metra train Thursday.

Police said the 52-year-old Palatine woman was northbound in a 2010 Ford Fusion at about 8:32 p.m. The car stopped on the south side of the crossing, between the downed warning arm and the train tracks.

Police said the Metra engineer saw that the front of the car was over the tracks and took immediate action to stop the train.

"The train was brought to almost a complete stop before coming in contact with the vehicle," a press release from the police department states.

The 52-year-old woman was unharmed and her vehicle suffered minor damage – the vehicle was driven from the scene. Police ticketed the woman for disobeying a railroad signal.

No one was injured when a Metra train clipped a car at the Quentin Road crossing in Palatine Thursday.

The Palatine Fire Department confirmed that the driver of the vehicle was not injured and refused medical treatment. A source on scene said the incident occurred at about 8:40 p.m. when a motorist attempted to stop as the gates came down and the front of the car extended over part of the tracks.

The Chicago Tribune quoted a Metra spokesperson as saying the Crystal Lake-bound train #657 was moving again at 9:30 p.m., about 65 minutes behind schedule. The train had been scheduled to arrive in Crystal Lake at 8:55 p.m.

A Metra train headed for Crystal Lake struck a vehicle in Palatine and was stopped at Quentin Road, according to an advisory that was posted on Metra's website.

"Train #657 scheduled to arrive in Crystal Lake at [8]:55 p.m. is currently stopped at Quentin Road near the Palatine station due to a vehicle being struck by the train," the advisory stated

Metra states that the duration of the train delay is not known.

This is the second time in less than two months that a vehicle has been hit by a Metra train in Palatine. On Tuesday, Dec. 27, when his 1999 Mercury Sable .
