Gas Leak Caused Brief Evacuation

Residents near the corner of Illinois Avenue and White Willow Bay had to deal with a gas leak Wednesday.

A natural gas leak Wednesday caused a brief evacuation of some homes near Illinois Avenue and White Willow Bay.

The Palatine Fire Department received the call at about 8:01 a.m. A press release from the fire department states that a work crew that was drilling hit a 4 inch gas main.

The area was closed to traffic while the fire department monitored the gas leak. Fire officials also advised staff at Hunting Ridge School and Fremd High School of the situation. Homeowners in the area were advised to stay inside and keep their doors and windows closed.

The fire department said that no gas was detected in any homes. NICOR had the leak stopped by 12:53 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The Palatine Fire Department would like to remind all residents that they should call the Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators (J.U.L.I.E.) by dialing 8-1-1 prior to digging on their property.
