Firefighters responded Monday to reports from multiple passers-by regarding a fire in the 1200 block of Long Valley Drive in Palatine Township, according to a press release from the Palatine Fire Department.
No one was injured in the apartment fire at 1213 Long Valley Drive, and the tenants were not in the residence at the time of the incident.
Firefighters arrived at 11:01 a.m., the press release stated, and observed smoke coming from the ground-floor apartment in the 3-story, 6-apartment building. As excessive smoke and heat were present throughout, a third floor resident was assisted out of the building to safety.
Due to heat and smoke damage, the apartment was deemed uninhabitable, but the five other units sustained no damage, the release stated.
Estimates on the cost of damage were not yet available.
Three people at the scene were assessed for possible smoke inhalation, but refused further medical treatment, the release stated.
In total, 24 firefighters fought the fire, which was contained by 11:17 a.m.
In addition to the Palatine Fire Department, an engine from Arlington Heights and an ambulance from Buffalo Grove responded to the scene. Long Grove provided ambulance coverage at the Palatine fire station whose ambulance was at the scene.
Palatine Township is part of the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District and is covered by the Village of Palatine Department through a contractual agreement.
