Free Showing of "It's A Wonderful Life"

The Palatine Park District will present a free showing of the 1946 classic holiday film “It’s A Wonderful Life” on Friday, December 6. The film will be shown at 7:00pm at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 E. Wood Street, Palatine, preceded by caroling with the Allegro Adult Choir beginning at 6:30pm. Doors will open at 5:30pm for open seating, concession sales, and raffle ticket sales.   Directed by Frank Capra, and starring Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore, “It’s a Wonderful Life” tells the story of George Bailey and the town of Bedford Falls.  George spends his entire life giving up his big dreams for the good of his town, as we see in flashback. But in the present, on Christmas Eve, he is broken and suicidal over the misplacing of an $8,000 loan and the machinations of the evil millionaire, Mr. Potter. His guardian angel, Clarence, falls to Earth, literally, and shows him how his town, family, and friends would turn out if he had never been born.   Concessions, including popcorn from Signature Sweets in Palatine, will be available for purchase, and a large raffle will be held to raise funds for the Susannah’s Gift Scholarship Fund. This fund was established in memory of Susannah Kist, a long time Palatine Park District theater and music teacher, who lost her battle with cancer in 2009. The scholarship fund assists residents with financial need who would like to participate in park district cultural arts activities. Raffle prizes have been generously donated by the following local businesses: Whole Foods Market-Kildeer, Cookie Cards, Slice of Chicago, Tore & Luke’s, Photo’s Hotdogs, Kinsch Village Florist, Bill’s Grove Florist, D’Vine Wine & Gifts, and the Jewel-Osco on Plum Grove Road.   Admission to the event is free, but tickets are required. Tickets are available at the Community Center, 250 E. Wood Street, Palatine, and at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 E. Wood Street, Palatine.
