Palatine Park District Announces Summer Concert Series Performers

Sounds of Summer, 4th Thursdays, and Friday Lunch Specials bring a wide variety of musical talent to perform free concerts for the community.

Palatine Park District announces a summer lineup of ten Sounds of Summer concerts, three 4th Thursday concerts, two Friday Lunch Special shows, and a poolside concert event. Concerts may be canceled for weather related reasons. For the most current information, call the weather hotline at 847-705-5123, x431.

Sounds of Summer Concert Series
2013 marks the 26th year of this popular concert series featuring a wide variety of Chicagoland talent. Sounds of Summer Concerts are held at Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, 262 E. Palatine Road, beginning at 8:00pm. Most performances last 90 minutes. During Sounds of Summer concerts, concessions are open at the Poolside Cafe and restroom facilities are available. Sounds of Summer concerts are free.

Palatine Concert Band
Palatine’s own 90 member ensemble will present an evening of light summer fare with a variety of selections ranging from classical to popular.

Friday, June 14 • 8:00pm
American English
Relive the days of the Beatles! Using identical instruments the legendary group used, this Palatine favorite has an uncanny ability to reproduce the vocal style and harmonies of the Beatles. Not only will they bring back memories for those who were there, but they bring to life the sounds for those who never had a chance to hear it live.

Small Potatoes
Small Potatoes is comprised of Jacquie Manning and Rich Prezioso. They call themselves eclecto-maniacs, and describe their music as “Celtic to Cowboy.” They say it has taken years of careful indecision to come up with a mix of music that touches on folk, country, blues, swing, and Irish.

R-Gang
Voted best R&B band in Chicagoland by multiple reader polls, R-Gang is all about dancin’ in the street...or anywhere else! Motown and more from the 60s-90s, R-Gang offers the best of R&B through the ages from Temptations and Spinners to Rick James & Gap Band to Prince and Boyz II Men. They even throw a bit of danceable rock at you, from Doobie Brothers to Toto.

Larkin and Moran Brothers are known for the electricity they project when performing. They are widely known as one of the most sought after Irish/Celtic music bands in the Midwest.

Palatine Children’s Chorus
The Palatine Park District’s own Children’s Concert Choir, under the artistic direction of Rachel Rosellini, will present their 18th concert on the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater stage.

Guitarra Azul
Guitarra Azul features world class guitarists, percussionists, and dancers who are as committed to the art of flamenco as they are to making sure you have a fantastic time. Their irresistible rhythms will pull you from your seat, even if you can’t tango.

Spoken Four
Spoken Four is one of Chicago’s most renowned bands in the corporate, private, festival, and night-club market. Since 2006, Spoken Four has been delivering the best of the 60s through today’s rock and pop with precision accuracy.

Palatine’s own 90 member ensemble will present an evening of light summer fare with a variety of selections ranging from classical to popular.

7th Heaven
This is the premier Chicago festival act; one of the three best bands in Illinois. Anthony Fedorov, a finalist in the 2005 American Idol fronts the band. You will hear dead on renditions of Def Lepard, The Beatles, Bon Jovi, Journey, and even U2; delivered at a frenetic pace driving audiences to literally be dancing in the streets.

 

4th Thursday Concerts
4th Thursday Concerts are held at Towne Square, 150 W. Palatine Road, Palatine. 4th Thursday concerts feature local Palatine entertainers and are held from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. There are no restroom facilities at Towne Square. The 4th Thursday Concert Series is presented by Northwest Community Healthcare. 4th Thursday concerts are free.

 

Thursday, May 23 • 6:30pm
The Music Room
School of Rock and Blues Jam House together in concert. Join us for a fun hour of rock and roll and blues, presented by students at The Music Room. Bands will play familiar songs in a traditional band setting, guaranteed to rock the park.

Guitar Across the World!
Musicians have always been fascinated and inspired by the rich traditions of other cultures and countries. The result is often a wonderful piece of music that is created in homage to these different traditions. Hear Steve Vazquez perform some great guitar works composed in this spirit of cultural exchange by Leo Brouwer, Stepan Rak, Roland Dyens, Dusan Bogdanovic, and more.

Summertime • Allegro Choir
Please join us for Allegro’s first summer performance, Summertime. The concert will feature all a cappella choral works including Blackbird and Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles, Summertime from Porgy and Bess, and many more familiar pieces. 

 

Friday Lunch Specials
Friday Lunch Specials are held at Towne Square, 150 W. Palatine Road, Palatine. Friday Lunch Specials offer fun summer entertainment and are held from 12:00 noon to 1:00pm. There are no restroom facilities at Towne Square. Friday Lunch Specials are presented by Alexian Brothers Medical Group. Friday Lunch Specials are free.

Barefoot Hawaiians
For over 30 years this professional authentic Polynesian-style performing troupe has thrilled audiences of all ages with their dynamic dances, dramatic drumming, beautiful vibrant costumes and props, and informative displays of the customs of the islands.


Friday, August 9 • 12:00 noon
Mr. Myers
Mr. Myers blends the tropical sounds of Soca and Calypso with the rhythms of Reggae & Ska along with remakes of Rock N Roll and R&B Classics.

 

Poolside Concert
Enjoy tropical sounds poolside this summer. This concert is free for season pass holders, or with the payment of the daily pool admission fee. The Family Aquatic Center is located at 340 E. Palatine Road, Palatine.

Enjoy a poolside concert full of energetic renditions of your Tropical favorites!
