I-Compete Fun Run Presented by PHS Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams

Run proceeds to benefit I-Compete programs benefiting Palatine youth.

The I-COMPETE program is one of the very successful collaborative programs offered for youth at the Palatine Opportunity Center. Begun several years ago, the program offers wholesome after-school activities for children including sports, arts, music and field trips.  I-Compete is a collaborative effort involving many community organizations including Palatine Park District, Buehler YMCA, Palatine Opportunity Center, District 15, and Palatine High School. In addition to these groups, many generous sponsors, volunteers and mentors make programming options possible for young children in Palatine. Cristina Lara, the Palatine Park District Program Coordinator for Northeast Palatine, reports that both the number of children participating and the number of senior student mentors from Palatine High School have increased significantly over the years.

Both the Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams at Palatine High School have joined forces this year to present the annual I-Compete Fun Run to benefit the programs offered to young people in Palatine through I-Compete.  The run will be held on Saturday, June 2 at the Palatine High School track, 1111 North Rohlwing Road, Palatine.

There are two options for this year’s event.  At 8:00am, participants ages 18 and under can compete in the individual 1-mile race for just $5. Five-person teams can also compete in the event, which will be scored cross country style.  At 8:30am, all ages are invited to participate in a 5K run for $10.
