40 Parks in 40 Days - Hamilton

40 Parks in 40 Days is a series highlighting the parks of the Palatine Park District. Additional photos of our 40 Parks in 40 Days series can be found at www.facebook.com/palatineparks.

Tom T. Hamilton Reservoir is located at 1037 Smith Street. In 1977, PPD leased the majority of the property until the year 2027 from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District. Three adjoining parcels were purchased by the park district in 1991, 1993 and 1994 and total acreage at Hamilton is now 94.12 acres. A grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources received in 2002 in the amount of $282,900 was applied to development of the area.

Hamilton includes athletic field lighting, a paved .9 mile path around the park, two playgrounds, and two shelters. A sled hill is located on the north end of the property during winter months, and fishing is available in the reservoir.

The athletic fields at Hamilton were renamed the Ron Gbur Sports Fields this summer in honor of PPD’s most recently retired Executive Director. The fields include a practice football field, 6 football/soccer fields plus 3 auxiliary fields, and 5 baseball/softball fields.
