Letter to the Editor: “Sequester Dumb Way to Do Things”

Local resident Roz Lange discusses the evolution of the sequester, and how politics is getting in the way of resolution.

Just prior to the sequester deadline the president referred to it as a dumb way of doing things. Interesting because his own administration admits to creating the idea & has threatened to veto any attempt to repeal it.

Back in 2012 the House Republicans passed two pieces of legislation to replace the sequesters across the board budget cuts with responsible common sense cuts but they were blocked by the Democratically controlled Senate, although they made no alternative suggestions of their own.

Apparently the president is suppose to meet with the congressional leaders about the sequester after the deadline. It would be nice if he could stop wasting taxpayer money running around the country still campaigning & walk the few steps over to the Capitol to start leading instead of politicking.

Great point Roz. Yet precedent of Obama is politicking and blaming others.

Who's idea was this sequester? Already feeling it here in Illinois. Teachers are being tossed out of schools, hosptial patients are being kicked to the curb. Un vaccinated children are being quarantined on secret island. Planes are falling from the sky. The border with Wisconsin is now open and unprotected. Rumor has that Quinn, Durbin and Madigan want to borrow money from the Illinois pension fund to get us through this.

Just to put things into I perspective. The sequester is to cut spending by roughly $85 billion in a year. Obama has overspent by over $1 trillion per year raising the debt level from $10 trillion to over $16 trilliin in his first four years. His Federal Reserve chief has in addition committed to essentially printing $85 billion of money each month with his QE Infinity program. The sequester long term is to reduce the deficit by about $1.5 trillion of 10 years, yet that only reducing the already $1 trillion over spending per year by about $150 billion s we only overspend by $850 billion per year. Understand how screwed we are now?
