Obituary: Gloria Helen Rackow, More than 50 Year Palatine Resident

Gloria Helen Rackow, 81, was called home to the Lord on May 24, 2013.  Gloria was born on March 2, 1932 in Chicago to Joseph and Eleanor Mitchell.

Gloria married Raymond Rackow on October 1, 1955 and together with their children, Kurt and Kathleen, moved to Palatine in 1961. There Gloria served as an avid homemaker and Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader to her children’s scouting troops. She later furthered her career in the banking industry until her retirement.  Most recently and together with her husband, volunteered for several years at the Buehler YMCA in Palatine.  

Gloria was the beloved wife of Raymond J. Rackow; loving mother of Kurt (Donna) Rackow and Kathleen Rackow; loving grandmother of Alexander John Rackow; Judith Ting Rackow and Mary Xin Yu Rackow; and fond sister of Marilyn (Mick) LeGoff.  Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor (nee Maciejewski) and Joseph Mitchell, brothers, Joseph Mitchell, Leonard Mitchell and Richard Mitchell.  

Visitation will be held Friday, May 31, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine, IL 60067.  

On Saturday, June 1, 2013, prayers will be said beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church, 1201 E. Anderson Dr., Palatine, IL 60074.  Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine, IL.
