Don Maurice Jacobs, 79, Palatine

Don Jacobs, who passed away Dec. 28, was active in the First United Methodist Church of Palatine, Kiwanis Club and Plum Grove Estates Homeowners Association. He formerly served on the Palatine Library Board.

Don Maurice Jacobs, 79, of Palatine, passed away peacefully on Dec. 28.

Memorial visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 18 from 9 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Palatine, 123 N. Plum Grove Road, in Palatine. Interment will be private.

Don was born on Nov. 9, 1934 in Corwith, Iowa, the son of the late Roy and Phildred (nee Izzard) Jacobs.

A graduate of Drake University, Des Moines Iowa, Don married Jo Ann Bacon in 1957, then served in the U.S. Army. The couple moved to Palatine in 1959 so Don could start his career with Pure Oil/ Unocal. He retired in 1993 after 37 years of service. Don provided management consulting services in the Chicago area from 1993 to 2011.

Don was actively involved and held offices with First United Methodist Church of Palatine, Kiwanis, Palatine Library Board (served as president when the current library was built), Plum Grove Estates Homeowners Association and the Palatine Rural Fire Board.

Don enjoyed playing the piano and pipe organ. He acted as organist for the First United Methodist Church of Palatine for a time and substitute organist for this and many other churches in the area.  

Don also loved his family activities, travel, photography, fishing and fun with friends and family at the cabin in Siren, Wis.

Don was beloved husband of 56 years to Jo Ann (nee Bacon) Jacobs; loving father of Barbara (Glenn) Gustafson and Thomas (Linda) Jacobs; cherished grandfather of Robert (Jacqueline), Michael and Matthew Gustafson, Amanda and Rebecca Jacobs; dear brother of Cecil (Marlene) Jacobs, Jo Anne Gentle, Kay Karsjens and Michael (Trish) Jacobs; also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
