Decorated Veteran Mario J. Mazza, 93, Hoffman Estates

Mario J. Mazza was a WWII Army veteran who received five Bronze Battle Stars and one Silver Battle Star for Bravery. Visitation will be Sunday in Palatine. Prayers will be said on Veterans Day at Ahlgrim Funeral Home.

Prayers for Mario J. Mazza, 93, of Hoffman Estates, formerly of Wood Dale, will be said Monday, Nov. 11 at 9:30 a.m., at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine, IL 60067. The funeral mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church, 1201 E. Anderson Dr., Palatine. Interment will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles.

Visitation will be held Sunday 3-9 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, Palatine.

Mario was born Aug. 20, 1920 in Chicago, and he passed away peacefully, Nov. 7, 2013 at home surrounded by his family.

Mario was the loving father of Thomas (Lori) Mazza and Janice (Philip) Rosenburg; loving grandfather of Christopher (Kenzey) Mazza, Jason (Mary) Mazza, Patrick Mazza, Stacey (David March) Mazza, Pamela (John) Smith, Jeanette (Mark) Corridon and Brian (Amy) Rosenburg; loving great-grandfather of Madeline, Lainee, Jacob and Emelia Mazza, Joe and Kaitlyn Corridon, Johnny and Gracie Smith and Austin Rosenburg.

Mario was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores J. (nee Gappinski) Mazza, grandson, Josiah Smith, parents, Giuseppe and Madeline (nee Dal Santo) Mazzacavallo and many brothers and sisters.
