Gun violence prevention groups from the greater Chicagoland area will be holding a vigil to commemorate the six-month anniversary of the Sandy Hook shootings this Friday, June 14th at 7 p.m. at the Palatine Metra station, 137 W. Wood St., Palatine.  Please join with us as we read the names and honor the memories of those taken too soon on December 14, 2012.  We will also acknowledge the 4,800 additional Americans murdered since then, while Congress has failed to enact commonsense measures to reduce gun violence that are supported by 90% of the American people. Representative Peter Roskam, who will be a key player in deciding whether Congress will act on gun violence prevention, has been invited to attend but has not yet responded. This vigil is being held by Newtown Action Alliance in partnership with People for a Safer Society, Citizens for Safer Communities, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America,  Women's Resource Center, Northwest Suburbs Organizing for Action (NWSOFA), Lake/McHenry Organizing for Action (LMOFA), Palatine Township Democrats, Northwest Suburban Women Democrats, and Common Sense Reform, among others.  The event will go forward rain or shine. Free parking in commuter lots or adjacent garage. For more information, call (224)241-2012 or email June14vigil@gmail.com.
