Harper, Eastern Illinois University ink transfer agreement

Harper College has partnered with Eastern Illinois University to offer a Bachelor of Arts degree in General Studies. Beginning this fall, students can earn the EIU degree at the Harper Professional Center in Schaumburg. Under the transfer agreement, students will take Harper classes for the first 78 credit hours, then complete the remaining 42 hours with EIU classes.

“This degree can benefit students who need a bachelor’s degree, but not in a particular major,” Harper Transfer Coordinator Eric Rosenthal said. “Many students use a General Studies degree as a pathway to obtaining a job or to receive a promotion or salary increase in a current position.”

Classes will be held evenings, on weekends and online to help meet the educational goals of adults with busy lives. Prospective students can learn more by attending an open house from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at the Harper Professional Center, 650 E. Higgins Road in Schaumburg.

Harper currently holds more than 100 other transfer agreements with colleges and universities across the nation that create a pathway for students seeking four-year or advanced degrees. “Transfer agreements puts the focus on finishing college and make it more affordable to do so,” Rosenthal said.
