Immanuel Lutheran Hosts Super Bowl Breakfast

Each year during Super Bowl Week, National Football League (NFL) players and coaches gather during a breakfast to share how their faith in the Lord has guided them throughout their NFL career.  During the NFL-sanctioned Super Bowl event, Hall of Fame Quarterback Bart Starr will present the 2013 Bart Starr Award to Jason Witten of the Dallas Cowboys for outstanding character and leadership in the home, on the field and in the community.

Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Palatine, will host a Super Bowl Breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 2, from 9-11 a.m., where guests will watch a special 45-minute webcast of the 26th Annual NFL Super Bowl Breakfast.  Other NFL players and coaches will be featured as they share their faith in Christ.

The first Super Bowl Breakfast was held in 1988 in San Diego.  The Breakfast is one of ten NFL-sanctioned events that take place each year during Super Bowl week. The Breakfast draws a sell-out crowd of 1500-2000 individuals and is one of the most popular events of Super Bowl weekend.

The winner of the Bart Starr Award is voted on by NFL players and is named after NFL Hall of Famer Bart Starr. The award honors the player who best exemplifies Starr’s commitment to family, teammates and the community.  Past winners include London Fletcher, Drew Brees, Kurt Warner, LaDainian Tomlinson, Reggie White and former Chicago Bear Mike Singletary.

A light breakfast will be served and the event is free and open to the public.  Breakfast attendees are encouraged to support their favorite NFL team by wearing their team’s jersey, sweatshirt, cap or t-shirt.  Space is limited and reservations are appreciated.
