Boy Scout Troop 188 - Meet the Mayor of Palatine!

Local Boy Scout Troop 188 pays a visit to Palatine City Hall to meet Mayor Schwantz.

As Reported By:  Celeste Barr, Troop Publicity Chair

On June 20, 2011, Boy Scout Troop 188 spent the afternoon with Palatine's Mayor, Jim Schwantz.

As part of their mission to earn their Citizenship In The Community Merit Badge, approximately 20 members of Troop 188 joined Mayor Schwantz for a one-on-one meeting to learn what he does for the Village.

The boys asked many questions including, the future plans for the Village involving the new 70,000 square foot Palatine Police Station. They also asked about the state of local businesses, including the addition of a Mariano's grocery store that is being constructed on the same plat of land as the new station.

All of the Scouts (6th grade through 12th) brought great questions to the table. Mayor Schwantz spent the better part of an hour sharing answers with the boys and finished the meeting with a group photo and handshakes for all.

One sentiment that all of the boys and parents in attendance shared was that, our hometown mayor, was very personable and compassionate for his community decisions, even when the answers do not meet the patrons expectations. He expressed his commitment and understanding for the Village of Palatine and it proved as genuine for the responsibility of his role.

Troop 188 meets at Christ Lutheran Church, 41 South Rohlwing Road, Palatine, IL.
