A new martial arts school is coming to Palatine.

The village council Monday granted a special use permit to Palatine Yong In Tae Kwan Do to operate a studio at 157 W. Northwest Highway.

The business will be located at Plaza 14 Shopping Center, which is at the southeast corner of Smith Street and Northwest Highway. The tenant space was formerly occupied by Discount Cigarettes.

The owner, Kwang Suk Huh, said through an interpreter at the meeting that the school will teach tae kwan do, a Korean martial art, and gumdo, a sword art.

Hours of operation will be from 9 a.m. through 9 p.m., Monday through Friday and Saturday mornings. Each class would have seven to 10 students, Suk Huh said.
