Gators Wing Shack Wins WingFest

Gators Wing Shack took first place at the 2012 Chicago WingFest.

Palatine's took first place at the 2012 Chicago WingFest.

The festival was held Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Bailey Auditorium on Washington Street in Chicago. Gators was named 'Best of the Fest' and also awarded a first place for its original buffalo wings.

Gators Wing Shack, which is owned by Buffalo Grove resident Neil Jolcover and his brother in-law David Weiss, has dominated the wingfest over the years.

Gators has won 13 first place awards and five second place awards. Gators has been named 'Best of the Fest' a record three times. The WingFest began in 2000.

Gators first opened in Wheeling as Gators Pub & Grill in 1996. In December 2001 Gators Wing Shack Grill & Pizzeria opened at 1719 N. Rand Road in Palaitne.

Jolcover said that eventually the Wheeling location was closed and in June 2006, Gators Wing Shack was opened in Waukegan at 1801 Belvidere Road, just east of Greenbay Road.
