Library Foundation to host Carpenters Concert

The Palatine Public Library District Foundation (PPLDF) will be holding the Close to You:  The Music of the Carpenters concert on Wednesday, February 19th from 7:30 PM until 9:00 PM at Cutting Hall located at 150 East Wood Street in Palatine to support the fundraising efforts of the Foundation.

Singer Lisa Rock, her 6-piece band and backup singers bring the music of The Carpenters back to the stage in Close to You:  The Music of the Carpenters with their renditions of Carpenters classics.  “When she hits the lower range of her marvelous voice,” notes Chicago critic Alan Bresloff, “if you close your eyes, you can see Karen Carpenter’s face.”

According to their web site, “Rock creates a Carpenters experience like no other.  Her amazing four octave range allows her to sing hits like “We’ve Only Just Begun” and “Rainy Days and Mondays” in their original key, keeping the songs genuine and just like you remember them.  Rock engages the audience to the point where you can’t help but sing along with her and share the memories of The Carpenters and their music.”

Tickets are $30.00 and seating is limited.  Advanced tickets can be purchased online at www.cuttinghall.org.  Tickets can also be purchased on the day of the performance one hour prior to the show.  Cutting Hall accepts MasterCard and Visa or checks made payable to the Palatine Park District.

“This event provides an entertaining way for the public to help the library with improvements that their budget will not allow,” said Dan Wiseman, President of the Foundation Board.  “Specifically, funds raised through the ‘Close to You’ concert will directly support programs and services offered by the library for the business community.  These include small business and entrepreneurial resources, as well as an up to date dedicated small business center.”

“To make your evening even more special, start the night with dinner at Giannis Café in Palatine,” said Wiseman.  “Show your ticket receipt and Gianni’s will donate 10% of your bill to the PPLDF.  Bring your Gianni’s dinner receipt to the concert and be entered into a raffle that evening.”

Sponsorships, ads and raffle donations are being accepted through February 14th.  For further information on donations call 847-217-1845.  “We would like to thank a number of organizations that have sponsored this event,” said Wiseman.  “Without the help of BIK & Co., LLP, Palatine Bank and Trust, Warehouse Direct and Wells Fargo Advisors this event would not be possible.”

The Foundation also plays a critical role in the funding of the Palatine Public Library District, including providing funds for projects that directly impact the quality of life in the community.  The Foundation has provided funding for a number of projects that would not have been possible for the library to fully fund including: computers in the children’s area of the main library, remodeling of the Library’s first floor, the library’s bookmobile and furniture at the main library.

The Palatine Public Library District Foundation was formed in 1993 by a group of community-minded citizens working to support the library by organizing events and projects to raise funds and advocate for the library.  The foundation is an IRS 501 (c) (3) charitable organization with all the funds dedicated to the library.
