Holiday Guide: Enjoy Art and Entertainment this Season

From a a production of 'Its a Wonderful Life' November 16-25 to a ballet recital, enjoy plenty of art and entertainment this season in Palatine.

TesserAct Theatre Ensemble presents It's a Wonderful Life, the Musical. In the heartwarming tale the dreams of George Bailey are put to the side by family obligations and civic duty. When things seem at their lowest, George's guardian angel descents on Christmas Eve to show him he does in fact have a wonderful life.

Show times at Cutting Hall are November 16, 17, 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 18 and 25 at 3 p.m. Ticket prices range from $12 - $17 and are available in advance on this website, or at the door.

The Palatine Dance Company of the Palatine Park District will perform Nutcracker: All Jazz'd Up on December 1 at 4:30 and 7 p.m. The production is a twist on the traditional ballet and includes tap, jazz, tumbling, contemporary and story-telling. The performance will be held at Cutting Hall, 150 East Wood Street. Tickets are $6 and available online through this website .

UPDATED: Nov. 15, 2012 - Polar Express event is SOLD OUT

Take a ride on the Polar Express! The magic of the classic children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg comes to life December 1 when the train departs from the Palatine Station for a trip to Woodstock.

On board parents can help children decorate a gingerbread cookie. In Woodstock the Polar Express will stop at Pirro’s Restaurante where riders can enjoy hot chocolate and a story.

The train will depart from Palatine Station at 9:24 a.m. Dec. 1 and return at 12:25 p.m.

The cost for the Polar Express experience is $20 for residents and $30 for non-residents. Pre-registration is required, including adults. Sign up through the Palatine Park District.
