ComEd: Power Could Be Out For Days In Some Areas

The June 21 severe storms caused thousands to be without power throughout the Chicago-area.

Torrential rainfalls combined with high force winds tore through Palatine and much of the Chicago area Tuesday evening. According to a Commonwealth Edison spokesperson, 278,000 people across Chicagoland were without power as of 6 a.m. June 22.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for much of the Chicago suburbs between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. June 21. The storm moved through the area quickly, but it left in its wake downed tree branches, wind damage, and power outages.

The Northern suburbs were hit the hardest by the outages with 188,000 homes in the dark. ComEd crews are working around the clock to restore power, but because of the extent of the damage representatives said that could take multiple days to fix.
