TEACON Organizer Absent Amid Prostitute-Related Arrest Report

TEACON organizer Steve Stevlic was absent from the second day of the conference following a report in Gawker that he was arrested for soliciting a prostitute on June 25.

UPDATE 2:54 p.m.

TEACON 2011 organizer Steve Stevlic did not attend the second day of the conference he helped organize amid a report on Gawker that he was arrested for soliciting a prostitute.

The arrest occurred more than year ago in June 2010, Tea Party officials stated.

"My family and I dealt with this matter and we've successfully moved forward in our relationship," Stevlic said in a prepared statement. "The charges surrounding this incident were dropped against me over a year ago and with all the issues we are facing in our country right now, I'm not sure why this deserves a headline."

Chicago Tea Party spokesperson Eric Kohn said the issue was an "internal matter." When asked if Stevlic had resigned from the Tea Party, Kohn had no comment.

"I know Steve is upset with himself over the pain he has caused his family, but the charges against him were dropped over a year ago — this is old news," Tea Party Patriots State Coordinator Denise Cattoni said in a prepared statement.

"Steve has demonstrated a tremendous amount of leadership and commitment to growing the Tea Party movement in Chicago and TeaCon is the culmination of his efforts," Cattoni stated.

TEACON 2011 is the Tea Party's Midwest convention. Organizers expect about 640 to attend. WIND AM 560 radio is one of the chief sponsors. Other organizations involved in the event include the Illinois Tea Party and the Chicago Tea Party Patriots.

Kohn said that the conference is meant to promote the Tea Party "intellectually and financially." Although he said some of the money raised would go toward event expenses.

Kohn said the Chicago Tea Party is not a 501(c)3 nonprofit, but described it as a "nonprofit corporation."

As for the Stevlic situation, Kohn said that it was a personal matter and that the Tea Party was focused on taking the state and federal government back from Democrats and President Obama, who are "running both into the ground."

Earlier Saturday, Marcus Brown, program director for WIND 560 AM, said  Stevlic had addressed the Chicago Tea Party Friday night. Brown said Stevlic would not be attending the conference Saturday.

"I hope everyone can respect my family's privacy and I apologize for unnecessary pain this has caused my family," Stevlic said in a prepared statement.

10:40 a.m.

Chicago Tea Party Patriots Director Steve Stevlic was absent from TEACON 2011 following a report on Gawker that he was arrested June 25 2010 for soliciting prostitutes.

"He was here last night; he is not here today," said Marcus Brown, program director for WIND 560 AM, one of the organizers of the event.

When asked about the Gawker report, Brown said the issue was an an internal Tea Party matter. He said Stevlic addressed the Chicago Tea Party group at a meeting last night.

Palatine Patch has sent Stevlic an email seeking comment.

Stevlic was one of the main organizers of TEACON 2011, the Tea Party's Midwest convention.

Brown said about 640 people were expected to attend the two-day event which kicked off Friday evening and will culminate Saturday with an appearance by Glenn Beck. Patch will be liveblogging Beck's appearance.

Why would Stvevlik, a mere supporter of free-trade and open prostitution, think he should suddenly grow a set of morals and miss the TeaKlux Confab ?

Why - William "Call Me Joe! My Children Don't Recognize THIS Name !" Walsh showed up - and the court has a warrant out for his arrest !!

We should respect his privacy exactly the same way he and his friends respect that of others....which is NOT AT ALL.

All the skeletons in the closet are being found. Did Tea Partiers think they were immune to the prying eyes of the public? Very naive group.

Typical, tea-partiers can only respond to a valid criticism of one of there own, with look at the democrats. I can't not believe how stupid you are. I think the issue is not liberal or conservative. Men are just stupid, they just can't seem to keep it zipped up. We see politicians fall every week, is it ADHD or maybe it is early onset Alzheimers, that they can't remember Weiner or Sanford. Morality is supposed to only exist for women, thank goodness we can remember what happened last week.

Boy, you people worry more about the Tea Party than your own country. Last I checked the Democrat running our country has allowed unemployment to skyrocket, the national debt to skyrocket further, is more worried about vacations and meeting with the 85 Bears than jobs, and on top of that has turned us into a country with fewer freedoms than at any point in American history.

But hey, keep blaming the Tea Party.

Last I checked it was a Democratic majority in the senate and a Republican congress that can't solve any problems.

But hey, that's the Tea Party's fault. Because we all know there are no immoral or corrupt Democrats in office, and that the Treasury Secretary appointed by Obama never cheated on his taxes, and that one of Obama's czar's was an avowed communist.

You all have nothing of substance to say, so you call people Tea Baggers. Oh, I'm gonna cry now.

And Christine Olson, you are a female sexist pig for your comment.

Obama and the sane republicans who are left are not the ones willing to shut down the government at any cost, are not the tea party governor of a large state boasting of increasing unemployment, and are not the ones who cut the taxes that allowed the deficit to balloon. By the way, how many vacation days did Bush take? Just wondering.

I am not blaming the tea party for the problems of this country even if they helped to elect a deadbeat dad who barely beat an opponent who actually gave a damn. You people need to learn how to read and next understand what you are reading. I certainly don't think you can blame Barack Obama completely for the fiscal state this country is in. You can lay most of that in the lap of GWB. I agree that Obama has not done enough. I am tired of him caving into the republicans. It is the conservatives that brought this country to its knees because they felt, it is my way or the highway. If you could read, I said that in my last missive (look that up in the dictionary, if you need to) that immorality does not eschew either party. As for substance, there is nothing substantive ( I hope you do own a dictionary) in anything you say. You whine and whine about how awful everything is, but never do you propose a solution. Whoops, I read your mind, Supply side economics didn't work for Reagan and it certainly is not going to work now. As for being a female sexist pig. Female, I admit, being large I can even get the pig part, but If i was a sexist I would have voted for Hilary, which I totally regret not doing. The simple fact is it is male ( from right to the left) politicians who are immoral slugs and so stupid they get caught. This isn't sexism, it is a statement of fact. Sorry you can't handle the truth.

Oh my, when will you liberals stop blaming George Bush for everything. News flash, unemployment has almost doubled since Obama took office. I bet that's Bush's fault too.

Seriously, it's been almost four years. Blaming Bush for anything anymore is ridiculous. That's the Democrats' answer: Blame Bush for everything. Yet they can't solve any problem put in front of them....it's just spend, spend, spend, and tax, tax, tax.

Plenty of deadbeat mothers out there in this world too Christine....why don't you go attack them too. Funny, Walsh may be a deadbeat, but the funny thing is despite this, he still represents the people in his district and isn't a deadbeat congressman like Melissa Bean was.

So interesting that she couldn't and wouldn't meet with her constituents for YEARS, yet the deadbeat Walsh does every few weeks almost.

What does that say about Melissa "liberal" Bean that a deadbeat parent is doing a better job in Congress than she did? Hilarious!!!

I live in Barrington, most of my friends are republicans. Most of them would agree that GWB was a disaster. Has it gotten better, I don't think so. But I know whose fault that is. They come from both sides of the aisle. You are delusional. Yes ,there are deadbeat moms, and plenty of women who screw around. But they are not stupid enough to run for office on a family values platform. You reap the benefits, then don't want to pay for them. I don't blame you for not wanting to give up your money to taxes. But don't tell me it is for the public good. It is for your welfare not for our countries welfare. I have wealthy friends who praise God and country for their abundance and like Warren Buffett think they need to pay their fair share. Melissa Bean was not a liberal unless your standard is Attila the Hun. Joe Walsh is an embarrassment. He didn't pay his taxes, pay child support, and is a law breaker to boot. The conservative PAC "Club for growth" has even dumped him. You repubes always say character matters. Obviously, it is a bad character you support.

Tea Partiers are very confused. They refuse to consider the basic facts - that is, we will likely have two candidates, one being Obama and the other being either Obama (Romney is pretty much the exact same politically as Obama) or some crazy nut like Perry, Bachmann, etc......all of whom seem to go from WINNER to "can't get 3% of the republican vote" in about three weeks.

Watch closely in Ma when the darling of the tea party Scott Brown (who does not vote like a tea partier, BTW) gets beat by Liz Warren...who is hardly yet running, yet already neck and neck.

@Stuart: Boy will you be crying when Obama loses in 2012. I love it. You don't have a clue or a grip on reality. If you think Obama is going to be re-elected you are absolutely nuts.

So the joke is pretty much on you no matter what you say or think.

Andrea, the punchline won't be known until November 2012, so the joke really isn't relevant yet. But if republicans continue to disenfranchise voters in record numbers, it'll be tough for the republican to lose. If they disenfranchise AND control the voting machines, it would be a miracle for the repub. to lose. The odds are stacked in your favor, but there's still over a year to go, so who knows what could happen?

Hate men, I don't think so. I love men as long as they have an IQ greater than a slug, which many of the folks on this blog obviously have not met. Enough, Enough, I refuse to have a battle of wits with a group of unarmed people. Stuart, I don't know about Obama winning in 12, could be, after all he does have a terrible rating but then again congress' is worse. I think I like Liz Warren. Please let the next President have some backbone.

Hey Christine, it's okay if you like women and hate men. Your veiled insults are childish, and if you can't take it don't dish it out.

And Patch, how about showing some journalistic integrity and doing storieas about the positive things going on at this event and not just the fact the organizers is a dirtbag, seriously.

There are tons of liberal dirtbags, but every time there's a Democratic convention are you going to keep being biased and report on the corrupt people or criminals at the event, or the actual event?

Yawn.

Your political biases are starting to become way too obvious liberalpatch.com.

News flash, Obama is half white too. Yeah, let's blame the white man for hating black people. That's what's causing this. Posts like yours disgust me Lester. A half black president is still elected and people still try to blame their problems on white people with racist comments like yours.

How has Obama helped the black community again? Because I haven't seen any ways. At least most of the Teabaggers contribute to the economy instead of milking off of it and draining it.

The worst part is despite all these Democrats doing nothing to help your schools our crime in your neighborhoods in the poorest areas, you all foolishly still keep voting them into office and continue to wonder why nothing changes.

You reap what you sew Lester. And in your case, it is a farm full of ignorance, so to speak.
