A man was stabbed to death Monday night outside the Ports O'Call Apartments.
Palatine Police said the man was 22 years old. Police were called to the complex at about 8:07 p.m. and found a man lying on the ground bleeding in the 1300 block of N. Ports O'Call. The apartment complex is located off of Rand Road.
The man was taken to Northwest Community Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Police have identified the victim as Eduardo Guillen Tellez.
Alma Lopez, 21, said she was about a block west of the incident, preparing to cross Rand Road, when the stabbing happened.
"He just fell," Lopez said.
Lopez said she knew the man who had been stabbed.
"He was bleeding pretty bad," Lopez said.
Lopez said the individual who stabbed the man ran into a Ports O'Call Apartment building. She said police arrived and surrounded the building. A brief standoff occurred before someone was taken away.
A woman who identified herself as a cousin of the man being questioned by police said her cousin was accosted and acted in self-defense. However, she also said her cousin has had problems getting along with people.
"He just has a lot of problems," she said.
Police closed a lane of traffic on Rand Road while they investigated the incident. A statement released by police late Monday night said the investigation was ongoing and that a suspect is in custody.
