By now most people in Palatine have heard about the proposed Catherine Alice Gardens development. This development has created quite a stir in the Industrial Zoned area in which it is proposed to be located.
While the project has good intentions and is an excellent housing idea the proposed location is far from suitable for a high density housing project.
Let's weigh some of the pros and cons of the intended area for this development.
Pros:
- Provides housing for people who need it.
- Potentially would be located on a block with heavy industrial uses
- Questionable safety of living in an industrial area (no sidewalks or residential improvements)
- Loss of industrial business space
- No economic impact study based on similar projects proposed in similar areas
- Out of town developers
- Out of town residents
- High development cost
- Environmental impact of demolition and construction
These are just some of the problems with this planned development. We will cover these issues in greater depth throughout the week.
The village council vote is scheduled for August 5th at village hall. Voice your concerns about this development, and let your city council know your feelings. Use this form to communicate electronically or you can call them directly.
