Palatine Blotter: I-Pass Snatched, Craigslist Car Scam & Port-O-Potty Torched

Residential Burglary

Unknown offenders pried open a a window and/or sliding glass door at a home in the 1100 block of S. Falmore Dr. on July 24 sometime between 10:30 a.m. and noon. A 12-person silver plate set was taken from the living room, along with miscellaneous jewelry from a jewelry box in the master bedroom. Loss estimates were not immediately available. 

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

An Illinois I-Pass was taken from a windshield of a 2008 Toyota sedan parked in the 400 block of W. Mahogony Ct. on July 26 between 8 a.m. and 4:20 p.m. 

Theft 

A victim suffered a loss of $2,039 while attempting to purchase a vehicle on Craisglist.com between July 18 and July 24. The vehicle was reportedly out of state and the victim made a payment via MoneyGram. After several days, the vehicle never arrived. 

An Apple iPhone 4 ($480) was taken from a bench in an open residential garage in the 100 block of N. Rose St. on July 24 between 12:15 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. The victim's reported they were on a walk with their dog at the time the phone was taken. 

Retail Theft

Steven J. Sagert, 18, of the 4900 block of W. Polk St., Chicago took two bottles of vodka from Jewel, 755 Dundee Rd., and left the store without paying on July 26. Sagert was charged with misdemeanor theft.

Vandalism

Two picnic tables were graffitied in Sycamore Park, 901 N. Clark Dr. sometime between July 25 at 8 a.m. and July 26 at 3:15 p.m. A post of the pavilion also was discovered with graffiti on it. 

Arson

A Port-O-Potty was discovered completely engulfed in flames near the parking lot of Riemer Reservoir, 640 W. Palatine Rd. on July 28 at 10:34 p.m. A patrol officer observed the fire. 

Driving Under the Influence

Alejandro Marin, 44, of the 2100 block of Heather Ln., Palatine was charged with DUI on July 28 at 2:35 a.m. in the 1200 block of E. Dundee Rd. Marin also was charged with aggravated DUI (felony), driving with a suspended license, improper lane usage, improper signal, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and illegal transportation of alcohol.

Tony Kacinas, 43, of the 200 block of Ferndale, Round Lake Beach, was charged with DUI on Rand Rd. near Williams Dr. on July 26 at 4:15 a.m. Kacinas also was charged with DUI  with a blood alcohol content of more than .08 and improper lane usage. 

Cristina A. Defazio, 25, of the 1000 block of S. Plum Tree Ln., was charged with DUI on Northwest Hwy. near Palatine Rd. on July 26 at 4:15 a.m. Defazio also was charged with DUI with a blood alcohol content of more than .08 and improper turn. 

Kris Neuhold, 34, of the 400 block of Yorkshire Sq., Bolingbrook, was charged with DUI in the 2200 block of N. Rand Rd. on July 27 at 3:50 a.m. Neuhold also was charged with DUI with a blood alcohol content of more than .08, possession of Cannabis, driving with an expired license, disobeying a traffic control signal and speeding.
