Catherine Alice Gardens Issue Goes Back To Plan Commission

The controversial 33-unit apartment building issues goes back to continue cross-examination and testimony of an appraiser hired by the developer.

The Palatine Village Council Monday voted to remand the Catherine Alice Gardens issue back to the plan commission.

At its June 18 meeting, the plan commission chose to continue cross-examination of the developer's appraiser by Dan Shapiro, the lawyer representing two opposing businesses located near the proposed development at 345 Eric Drive.

At issue is the valuation report created by the appraiser that addresses how the proposed development would affect neighboring property values.

In addition to nearby business owners, residents also expressed opposition to the project. There also was considerable support for the project from service groups, businesses, residents and non-residents.

The cross examination will pick up again at the July 16 plan commission meeting.

Village Manager Reid Ottesen said once testimony is completed, the plan commission could take a whole new vote on the issue or reaffirm the 7-1 vote in support of the project.

Ottesen said residents and businesses within 250 feet of the proposed development will receive notice of the new meeting. Those who previously testified on the issue also will receive notices, Ottesen said.

Once the plan commission meeting is completed, the village council would have to give final approval for the project to move forward.
