Palatine Rocks Singing Contest: Enter by July 23

The first annual singing contest will be held on Saturday, July 27 and will include junior and teen categories to compete in.

Are you a talented singer or singing duo and want to strut you stuff?

If so, it's time to register for the first ever "Palatine Rocks Singing Contest" to be held on Saturday, July 27 during the Rockin' the Blocks Festival (Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27) in downtown Palatine!

Participants must be residents of Palatine and can compete in either the Juniors category for ages 6-12 years or Teens category for ages 13-19 years. 

Contest rules include:

  • Performance can be a maximum of 3 minutes.
  • Soloists or duets only.
  • All songs and performances must be appropriate for all ages family entertainment
  • Participants will be judged on harmony (duets) tone, pitch, rhythm, expression, timing and stage presentation.
  • Contestants can sing a capella, with background music on a CD or a live guitar or keyboard (no drums or pianos permitted).
  • Contestants under the age of 18 require parental permission. 
The panel of judges will include Mayor Jim Schwantz, Palatine Patch Editor Melanie Santostefano and a representative from Bourne 2 Dance.  

The competition will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 at the Rockin' the Blocks celebration in the downtown Harris Bank parking lot, 50 N. Brockway Street.  

Winners in each category will receive a trophy, certificate and a gift card from a local business. The winner of the Teen group will also be invited to sing the National Anthem at an upcoming local event. 

The fee is $5 for soloists and $10 for duets. Checks and charges can be made payable to the Palatine Chamber of Commerce, and cash payments will also be accepted.
