ReplyThere is no logical argument for late start being better than early release.
Parents that already have child care in the afternoon can absorb the extra hour but parents who don't have child care already cannot get child care for one hour a week.

Sandra - interesting that you admit Friday early release is what the majority want yet still object to moving forward with it. Sounds like a contradiction.

ReplyVicki makes an excellent point to Sandra's comment. The vote is the first step to authorize the district to start working on all the other points. That is one of the reasons why the vote was so important.

Replyanonymous - that's good for you that you have child care both before and after. But the great majority do not have child care before school.

ReplyD15parent - to address a few of your questions:
- if there is before school care it won't be free.
- Taking kids out of school for no valid reason is not an excused absence.
- I have to be at work right after I drop my kids off at school; I can't tell my boss I need to show up almost an hour later once a week. After school is *much* less of a hit for most parents.

ReplyLet the CTC sue and make their case to a judge. In the meantime the Professional Development time will be held up while a long case winds its way through the legal system!

I hope that isnt used as the basis for the change. There are only 10 late start Tuesday's in a school year. (I assume you mean late start, not early start).
And while I can trust my High Schooler to get off to school by herself I cannot expect an elementary school child to do the same.

Lisa - The answers to some of your questions might be here:

You speak as if there is a finite amount of money to spent on dining in Palatine. I don't think that is the case.
Personally, there are restaurants in Palatine I never go to, or never will go back to. So I welcome a new place opening. If they are good they will survive. If this place will negatively impact your business you need to look at the reason for that.
