Is it so hard to show a little compassion and humanity when a person dies? This man was someone's son, brother, friend and those people in mourning deserve some sympathy and respect. If anyone from his circle is reading this, I'm sorry that people who are anonymous on the web find it necessary to disrespect you in your time if sadness. My sympathies to you all for your loss.

Laura, you have such a good point. It's hard enough to get kids to settle down on a regular morning but on a later arrival day they will be even more difficult. Children require structured routine and the only kind that makes sense is the kind that results in the least possible disruption to their day. If the CTC cared about the kids they wouldn't be doing this. This is the 100% proof that is needed to show that the CTC has zero concern about the kids and only cares about what the next stupid thing is that they can implement at the kids' peril and on the taxpayers dime!

62 comments and not one in favor of late arrival. I'm sure if the CTC took an actual family by family survey, the results would be the same. Why are we even having this discussion? What is this REALLY about, CTC?! What is your deal? Why are you causing all of these problems and as a result causing the entire public to view you in the most negative possible way? What is really going on here because none is this is making any sense? You want overwhelming opposition? Where the heck have you been since this issue first came up, CTC? Are you really so blind that you can't see the overwhelming opposition that has been there from Day 1?!?!

If I was there when that happened I probably would have had a heart attack. Armed robbery!? I'm relieved to hear that no one was hurt but as we all know these things don't always turn out this way. This is Palatine where people were killed in an armed robbery at Brown's Chicken.

I just want to feel safe when I'm out shopping, is that so much to ask?

I'm so glad to hear our local Illinois government is putting aside such issues as pension reform, unemployment and the economic crisis to vote on such trifles as this. Boy that really makes me feel so good about where my tax $$ are being spent! Where can I sign up for more of this nonsense and waste?

I have to give a ton of credit to those engineers because its not a job for the weak. This is the kind of thing that can traumatize a person to witness it and its always a possibility when driving a train. I feel really bad for that engineer because there really was nothing he could do. I hope he will be ok.

As for the guy who got hit, I'm sorry for his loved ones but I think this was a preventable accident. My parents taught me as a child to never walk on the tracks no matter what. People don't realize with those express trains how fast they are on top of you even if it looks like it's still far away.

Bottom line, they need to admit the fact that eliminating Saturday delivery would SAVE a lot of money, period. If anyone denies that simple, logical fact then I'm certain they're not living in reality or in a place where logic actually exists.

The easiest thing in the world to help save money is to eliminate Saturday delivery. The majority of Americans don't care about Saturday delivery one way or another, so it's not like it would have any impact on the public! Just do it already, I don't get why they changed their mind?!

The post office has been hemmoraging money since the Internet came along and made bill pay as easy as clicking a few buttons to make it happen. Even greeting cards have gone the way of the buffalo and no one writes letters anymore! I'm sorry but times have changed and, as wonderful as it is to have a service who brings me my mail door to door, I can do without Saturday delivery of said mail if it means cost savings for the post office as well as lower tax implications for all of us on a federal level.

Who is ultimately responsible for how the situation was ultimately handled? That person or those people need to be held accountable and they should all be fired. When it comes to something like protection of children then there should be zero tolerance and those people should all be fired. Kick them all to the curb and hire people who actually take their job seriously and who care about the well being of the kids they are responsible for protecting.

Wow, if I was the parent of one of those kids I'd be outraged! I'd be storming down the halls of whatever office and cracking some heads if this happened while MY kid was on a bus!!

I am surprised more parents aren't out there raising the roof about this. The only possible explanation for that is because they don't know. How do you get the word out to those parents to make sure they are fully informed about what kind of shenanigans are happening with the bus drivers who are supposed to keep their kids safe on the ride to/from school? The parents can't take the necessary action unless they know this is going on. Someone needs to make sure they find out.

What a huge mess this bussing situation has become! Who is responsible for creating this huge mess? They should be fired.
