Palatine Bows Out of State Playoffs

The Pirates lose to the Loyola Ramblers 19-7.

Palatine came up just a bit short in their hopes to qualify for the Class 8A semifinals, losing to Loyola 19-7 Saturday in Wilmette. “We just didn’t execute,” Palatine coach Tyler Donnelly said. “Give them credit.” Palatine (10-2) was just moments away from receiving the opening kickoff when the lightening detector sounded, delaying kickoff for nearly 90 minutes. Then, when played resumed, on the Pirates first play from scrimmage, Loyola deflected a pass and intercepted the ball at the Palatine 23-yard line. The Palatine defense, led by Jesse Bobbit, Cam Kuska, Thomas McHugh, Dan Riddle, John Serio, Luke Rago and Josh Baldus, came up big, limiting the Ramblers to just a field goal. As good as Palatine’s defense was all game. Loyola’s was …

Palatine Beats Fremd 24-17

Over 5,000 see crosstown battle go down to the wire

Palatine won the annual backyard battle with crosstown rival Fremd Friday 24-17 to remain atop the Mid Suburban West conference. The Pirates (5-1, 2-0) overcame an early 10-0 deficit and 4 turnovers and then hung on at the end thanks to an interception by Brad Bauer to claim the victory before a crowd of 5,000 screaming fans. “I thought it was great, playoff-like atmosphere here tonight,” Palatine coach Tyler Donnelly said. “We turned the ball over way too much tonight which was uncharacteristic of us. That has to be addressed.” Fremd took advantage of 2 of the Pirates' 4 turnovers to take an early lead. Andrew Stark nailed a 22-yard field goal and Sam Beutler had a 5-yard touchdown run as the Vikings (3-3, 1-1) led 10-0 early in the …

Palatine Pirates lose to Broncos 26-21

Pirates lose to Montini Catholic High School Broncos 26-21 in the 2011 season opener in Lombard.

Playing against a 2009 and 2010 5A IHSA State Championship team was exactly what head coach Tyler Donnelly wanted to start the Palatine Pirates' season. Palatine faced the Montini Broncos on the road in Lombard Friday night. The two teams began their 2011 season with the evening cooling off, and baby powder in the air, as the Palatine superfans continued the tradition of spraying baby powder on themselves and into the air prior to the first kickoff. Each team had its share of miscues – turnovers, fumbled snaps. In the end, Montini came out on top with a 26-21 win. "I think you have two quality programs that are battling each other, and neither wanted to give up a win. Unfortunately we came up a little short tonight," Donnelly said. "I …
