Palatine Police Blotter: Retail Theft Arrests at Walmart

The following information was provided by the Palatine Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Aug. 2 Steven Kukich, 23, of Prospect Heights was charged with local ordinance retail theft after taking men's cologne valued at $38 from Walmart, 1555 N. Rand Rd. and leaving without paying. Aug. 3 David Doolen, 29, of Schaumburg, was charged with local ordinance retail theft after taking vitamins and condoms valued at $14 from Walmart, 1555 N. Rand Rd., and leaving with out paying. Aug. 3 Siobhan Zagone, 46, of Palatine, was charged with local ordinance retail theft after taking razor refills, a razor with a handle and a candy bar from Walmart, 1555 N. Palatine Police Blotter: Several Car Burglaries Investigated

The following information was provided by the Palatine Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

July 20 A tan 1999 Toyota van had all four of its tires slashed and its gas door damaged sometime between 11:30 p.m. July 20 and 7:30 a.m. July 21. July 20 A 2002 Chevy Surbuban had its driver's side window smashed at Midtown Athletic Club, 1760 N. Hicks Rd. Taken from the vehicle was an iPad, an iPhone and a purse. July 21 A 2004 Chrysler Pacifica had its driver's side window smashed in the parking lot of the Palatine KinderCare, 929 E. Palatine Rd. The incident occurred between 5:25 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. A gray leather purse, an iPad, and a wallet was taken from the vehicle. Palatine Police Issue 132 Tickets, Make 8 DUI Arrests During St. Pat's Holiday Campaign

The Palatine Police department participated in the St. Patrick's Day Holiday Traffic Safety Campaign.

The Palatine Police Department issued 132 tickets and made eight DUI arrests as part of the St. Patrick's Day Holiday Traffic Safety Campaign. Palatine increased patrols from March 11 through March 20 prior to St. Patrick's Day and had a road side safety check point near Algonquin and Roselle Roads. The department's efforts were paid for in part by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation. A press release from the department states that the goal of the campaign was to get intoxicated drivers off the road, reduce speeding and to make sure that people were using their seat belts. Palatine Police Blotter: Price Tag Switch Fails

The following information was taken from Palatine Police reports:

March 17 A silver Jeep Grand Cherokee was burglarized between 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. in the 300 block of N. Carter Street. The vehicle was unlocked at the time. Among the items taken from the vehicle were a pair of Native sunglasses valued at $100 and a TomTom GPS unit valued at $100. March 17 A white 2008 Subaru was burglarized sometime between 7 p.m. March 17 and 7 a.m. March 18 in the 200 block of N. Carter Street. The vehicle was unlocked at the time. Taken from the vehicle was a flashlight and some change. March 20 Nellie Dannys, 46, of Palatine, was charged with retail theft after an incident at Home Depot, 825 E. Dundee Rd. Dannys allegedly removed three $3.98 price tags from potted plants and placed the price tags on cans of Behr …

Palatine Police To Step Up Patrols for St. Patrick's Day Weekend

The Palatine Police Department will step up patrols this weekend.

The Palatine Police Department will saturate roadways with police officers this weekend looking for impaired drivers, according to a press release from the department. Palatine is participating in the St. Patrick's Day Holiday Traffic Safety Campaign. During the campaign the department will use saturation patrols to look for impaired drivers, people not wearing their seat belts, and speeders. Palatine police said in a press release that these violations are among the largest contributing in serious injury and fatal vehicle crashes. Palatine also will conduct a roadside safety check on March 18 near Algonquin and Roselle Roads in the late evening and early morning hours. Palatine Police Blotter: Officer Kicked in Shin

The following was taken from Palatine police reports.

March 9 Maria E. Baron, 60, of Vernon Hills, was charged with retail theft, resisting arrest and battery after an incident at 3:22 p.m. at T. J. Maxx, 1311 N. Rand Rd. Baron allegedly filled a trash bag with two pairs of shoes and some bed linens, went to customer service, and returned the items. Police said Baron received a customer gift card and used it to buy $87 worth of merchandise. Police said that Baron resisted arrest and kicked an officer in the shin. March 9 Isidoro Venegas, 20, Palatine was charged with burglary to motor vehicle and criminal trespass to vehicle. The incident occurred at about 2:04 a.m. Police were called to the 100 block of Dundee Quarter after an individual was seen in the parking lot pulling on door handles. …

Teenagers Charged With Smashing Mailboxes in Palatine

Three teenagers allegedly used a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser to smash at least seven mailboxes in the village.

Three teenagers allegedly used a 2005 PT Cruiser to destroy at least seven mailboxes in Palatine on Friday, Feb. 25. Joshua J. Rupe, 18, of Palatine, Robert A. Wagner, 18, of Palatine, and Alyssa M. Kessel, 18, of Elmhurst allegedly took the PT Cruiser from a home in the 200 block of Harrison Street after getting permission to take the vehicle from the daughter of the owner, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Robin Murphy. Palatine Police said that Rupe, Wagner and Kessel allegedly used the doors of the PT Cruiser to hit mailboxes as they drove along Palatine streets. The mailboxes were located in the 700 block of Revere Lane, 900 block of Elm Street and 900 block of Carriageway Lane. The damage to the car was estimated to be $8,…

I'm glad you did this story. Smashing mailboxes isn't the world's worst crime, but it happens all the time in lots of communities. And the use of a vehicle to do the smashing takes it to another level. Very dangerous to other drivers and to people out walking, even to pets who might be outside. Palatine Blotter: Car Antennas Recovered

The following information was taken from Palatine Police reports.

Feb. 19 A 2010 Toyota hatchback was burglarized sometime between Feb. 19 and Feb. 21 in the 2200 block of Enlund Drive. The vehicle was unlocked at the time. Taken was a pair of sunglasses valued at $15. Feb. 20 A commercial burglary was reported at Tian Lai Asian Mart, 1271 E. Dundee Rd. The incident occurred between Feb. 20 at 10 p.m. and Feb. 21 at 5:30 a.m. The front door of the business was shattered and the cash register was found on the ground. An unknown amount of money was taken. Feb. 22 Dominik Mach, 25, of Palatine was charged with theft after police officers encountered him walking near Hidden Creek Circle. The following information was taken from Palatine Police reports:

Jan. 7 A theft occurred sometime between 9:30 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. in the parking lot of Jewel-Osco, 423 E. Dundee Rd. An individual had been shopping and placed grocery bags in her vehicle. She left her purse in the cart and drove away. When she returned to the parking lot the purse was gone. The black leather Coach purse was valued at $200. The contents of the purse included a black Coach wallet valued at $100, an Apple IPhone valued at $200, a Cannon digital camera valued at $200, about $100 in cash and several gift cards. Jan. 15 A green 1995 Plymouth Voyager was burglarized in the 1900 block of N. Hicks Road sometime between noon Jan. 15 and 7 a.m. Jan. 22. The sliding door handle of the vehicle was damaged. Palatine Police Gear Up for Super Bowl

Palatine Police are planning increased patrols and a safety checkpoint in coming weeks.

The Palatine Police Department will be participating in the Super Bowl Holiday Safety Traffic Crackdown. The department will be saturating roadways with officers focused on impaired driving, people not wearing seat belts and speeding, according to a press release. These violations have proved to be the greatest contributing factors in serious injury and fatal crashes, the Palatine Police Department press release states. Palatine also will conduct a roadside safety check on Friday, Jan. 28 near Algonquin and Roselle roads. The check will occur in the late evening through the early morning hours.
