Palatine Huffing Case: 5 Year Prison Sentence

Karli M. Casey of Palatine was sentenced Wednesday to five years in prison after pleading guilty to four counts of great bodily harm.

Karli M. Casey of Palatine was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday for causing a multi-car crash after huffing then driving on April 28, 2012. Casey pled guilty to four counts of great bodily harm. She was charged in October, 2012 with 26 counts in October 2012.  Four people, including two passengers in Casey's vehicle were seriously injured.  Casey, who was 19 years old at the time of the crash, turned 20 while in custody. After her sentencing, she told the family of the victims that she was sorry for what happened to their family, according to Sharon Johnson, a victim's advocate with The Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists.  The most seriously injured victim, 84-year-old Apalonia Rilloraza required 24- hour care. More Charges Filed Against Palatine Woman Accused of Huffing Before Crash

More Charges Filed, Bail Increased in Palatine Huffing and Driving Crash Case.

Charged with aggravated driving under the influence an intoxicating substance, the charges against Karli M. Casey, of Palatine, were increased from five to 26 counts in Cook County court Tuesday. According to a victim’s advocate with the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists, the indictment against Casey was increased after blood work indicated the 20-year-old was under the influence of multiple drugs, not just inhalants. In court Tuesday, prosecutors presented lab test results to show heroin, cocaine and codeine were found in Casey’s system at the time of the April 28 accident that injured an elderly woman in Palatine, the Daily Herald reports. Prosecutor: Palatine Woman on Cocktail of Drugs Before Crash

Prosecutors say Karli Casey of Palatine was under the influence of heroin, cocaine and codeine at the time of huffing and driving crash, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Karli M. Casey, the Palatine woman police said was huffing the contents of an aerosol can right before she passed out behind the wheel and caused a two-car crash in April was also under the influence of heroin, cocaine and codeine. The Chicago Tribune reports prosecutors alleged the use of those other drugs in court Thursday.  Casey who was 19 at the time of the accident celebrated her 20th birthday behind bars. With bond set at $20,000, the Palatine woman has been held at the Cook County Jail since the crash in late April. According to the Chicago Tribune, Casey enrolled in a drug treatment program at Cook County Jail. Casey and four others were injured in the crash, including an 84-year-old woman who suffered life-threatening injuries …

Police Say Woman Was 'Huffing' Before Causing Two-Car Crash

Karli M. Casey, 19, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of an intoxicating compound, improper lane use and no proof of insurance.

A 19-year-old Palatine woman is facing charges after police said she caused a two-car accident when she passed out after "huffing" cleaning chemicals while driving. At 9:28 p.m. Saturday, April 28, Karli M. Casey, 19, of Palatine, was driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer eastbound on the Northwest Highway when she crossed over into the westbound lanes and struck a 2006 Honda Accord that was westbound in the curb lane, according to a news release from the Palatine Police Department . The crash occurred at First Bank Drive and the Northwest Highway. Officers were told that Casey had been “huffing” the contents of an aerosol keyboard cleaner immediately before the accident.
