Milhouse Will Have You at Hello

Adoptable kitty loves to greet you at the door.

Well, hello there! Hi! So nice to see you! I’m Milhouse, and I am a fantastic 7-year-old kitty up for adoption with Young at Heart Pet Rescue! I am as sweet as pie and love to rub affectionately against your legs when you come into the room. After all, I was raised to always show the people you love just how much you love them! You’ll learn quickly that I’m a lover, not a fighter, so I get along well with all the other kitties at the adoption center, including the “hissy-pants” kitties that get a little grumpy with other cats. I just walk away from those silly cats. I’m very handsome and a volunteer favorite, as I tend to be a social butterfly that just makes friends left and right. And my favorite pastime is to greet you at the door! At …

Rihanna is a Flirt at Heart

This 8-year-old girl kitty knows how to get your attention.

Hi there, folks! It’s Me! Rihanna! And if I do say so myself, I’m quite a good-looking girl! And if you don’t mind a little kitty flirting, then you and I will get along famously. I am about 8-years-old, and a complete sweetie pie. I am relatively mellow and friendly, and I just adore TLC. Yes, I am a love hog and a flirt, I will admit. I can’t help it if a beauty like me enjoys to be told just how beautiful I am! I also enjoy snuggling up with you, being brushed, playtime, and whatever other sort of love you would like to bestow upon me! And you won’t be able to resist petting my butter-soft coat! Everyone loves me, and I enjoy the company of other kitties and all the volunteers at Young at Heart Pet Rescue! I’m quite the character and "…

Marty Seeks One Warm Lap

Big tiger-striped kitty is looking for snuggles.

Howdy! I’m Marty, and if you’re looking for one cool cat, then look no further! I’m a big boy with a big heart, and I love to LOVE!! I am a purr machine, so happy to let you know that I love you while you pet me and brush me. I’ll even show you how happy I am by “making biscuits” with my front paws when I’m overcome with happiness! It makes me a great massage therapist when you’ve had a rough day. Who doesn’t want to come home to that sort of treatment? I’m cool with other kitties, don’t seem to be bothered by dogs, and loooooove my people. I’m about 7 years old, I’m healthy and good with my litterbox, too! Wanna meet me? Come on out and let me win your heart! I’m up for adoption through Young at Heart Pet Rescue, a safe haven for older …

Happy-Go-Lucky Fern Will Make You Smile

Sweet 8-year old Labrador seeks home full of love and laughter.

Are you looking for a dog to light up your life? Look no further! I’m Fern, a beautiful purebred yellow Labrador retriever who enjoys making people smile. The great thing about adopting an older gal like me is that I’ve learned a lot of new tricks along the way, and I love to show them off for you! Aside from the useful “sit”, “down”, and “shake”, I’m also a pro when it comes to greeting your guests. I will deliver them one of my favorite toys to show them just how much I appreciate them visiting me. I am also very good at the head-in-lap trick to get people to pet me. What can I say? I’m a people pleaser! I am also an avid lounger around the house. I am very happy to just hang out with my foster parents, stretched out on a fluffy dog bed…

Max the Jack Russell Seeks Partner for Walks, Car Rides, Cuddles and Fetch

Smart, healthy, and good with other dogs and cats, he’s ready to be someone’s new best bud.

My name is Max, a healthy and happy eight- or nine-year old Jack Russell Terrier best described as a sweet, low-maintenance lap dog who’s as active as you want to be. Feel like playing fetch? Okay! Rather hang out on the couch with a good book? Terrific! Need a nap? I’ll curl up in a tiny ball beside you, pressed against your leg, feeling safe, cozy, and close. I can be a little shy at first (especially with men), but after a day or two I’m your best tail-wagging bud. I’m fully house trained and have excellent house manners. I never touch anything that isn’t mine. Although I’m crate-trained, I have the run of my foster home because I’m so trustworthy. I love when Foster Mom picks up the leash, because it means a walkie or a car ride. It …

Handsome Feline Couch Potato Seeks Place to Nap, Lap to Snuggle

Malcolm is a softie at heart.

Hey, folks! I’m Malcolm, the “Walter Matthau” of Young At Heart Pet Rescue. I’ve been given this odd moniker because like my (nick)name-sake, I’m kind of a gruff older guy on the outside, but deep down, I’m a big creampuff. I’m 10 years old, and as you can see from my photos, I’m what the kids call a “couch potato.” I truly enjoy my quiet time. I’m perfectly happy hanging out on the sofa… the bed… the comfy chair… or your lap. Every now and then, however, the urge to play strikes me, and I run with it. Like a lot of older gentleman, I do things at my own speed and my own whim. I enjoy good conversation and have lots of stories to tell. My rescue friends think I’d be the ideal companion for a retired person. I’d make a great TV buddy, and …

Meet the ‘Perfect Dog’: Tucker the Giant Marshmallow

Lovable escape artist seeks home with secure yard and no dog crates.

Hi there! I’m Tucker, a 10-year-old Great Pyrenees mix who’s a terrific example of the “Gentle Giant.” If you asked a child to draw a picture of a dog, they’d probably draw one that looks a lot like me, with the traditional floppy ears and symmetrical markings that make me a handsome “every dog.” Me, I’m nonplussed by my good looks. I just concentrate on being a super-sweet, super-cool dude. I love meeting new people. With just one “hello,” you’ll see that I’m quite the passionate kisser. I’m even friendly and gregarious with other dogs and cats. When I first came to Young At Heart Pet Rescue, I was underweight at a wee 66 pounds. According to the vet, I should be closer to 75 pounds. I’m pleased to report that I‘m enjoying the journey to…

Thank you, Jane & Shannon! Tucker is a fabulous guy, and if you have a nice wooden fence, he'll be safe and sound in your yard- he doesn't even try to jump it! He loves to play and is oh-so-sweet! He really is a great dog! We know he'll find a loving home soon!   more ›

Little Sprout is a Real Guy’s Guy

Independent older gentleman seeks special home for love and possible ‘Sanctuary.’

Q: What do you get when you cross a Boston Terrier or Pug with a Chihuahua? A: Me! I’m Sprout, an irresistibly cute older gentleman with a funny independent streak. I came to Young At Heart Pet Rescue after losing my way and ending up at the pound. I waited a whole month for my owners to come find me, but they never did. On my very last day, when I had no more time left, a very nice volunteer from Young at Heart came and picked me up. Whew! That was close! Now I’m safe and comfy in a foster home, where I’m waiting to find a special family who will love me and keep me close well into my golden years. Speaking of “golden years,” I’m somewhere between 12 and 14 years old. I’m still spunky; I just appreciate my naps more. I play a little bit…

Topher the Tabby Thinks Attention is the Best Thing Ever

Easygoing 9-year-old feline seeks home with cuddles and catnip.

Attention, Palatine! Terrific cat seeks forever home! That terrific cat is me: Topher is my name, and snuggling is my game! I’m a sweet and super-friendly buff tabby who lives for head rubs and lap time. Catnip toys are pretty cool too, as I’m a rather playful fellow who enjoys a little snort of kitty hooch every now and again. I’m a real love bug. When I want to get your attention, I’ll gently reach out and touch you with my front paws. I’m so sincere that my friends at Young At Heart Pet Rescue can’t resist giving me the hugs and snuggles that I enjoy so much. I’m 9 years old, and somehow I lost my way. I ended up at a local animal shelter, but no one came to claim me. Young At Heart stepped in to take me before my time was up at the …

Unless the transferring shelter provides us with a somewhat reliable record on the animal (as in the cases of owner surrenders), the cited age for any rescued pet is essentially an informed estimate based on the its dental condition (i.e., degree of wear on the teeth), changes in the eyes, and body condition (such as the presence of arthritis and other conditions associated with aging). 'Max'-imum Cat Offers Maximum Love

Young At Heart Maximus gratefully accepts affection in any form.

I’m Maximus – Max for short. I’m about 7 years old, a great snuggler, super affectionate, and playful. I am a big, butterball of a guy with equally large amounts of love to give. I love being brushed and petted, and I really enjoy a good game of feather chasing. Check out my video to see me in action. I’m good with my litter box, and I have lots of four-legged friends at Young At Heart Pet Rescue. I’d love a home with one of the cats I currently share space with at the Lake Zurich Petco Adoption Center. I’d also do just fine as an only cat or in a home with a cat-savvy dog like my pal Maggie. See, I can be a bully to some cats, so it’s easiest if I go to a home with another cat I already know. Since Young At Heart’s kitty adoption fee is $…
