Arlington Heights and Palatine: Winter Weather Advisory

Residents should beware of what is called heart attack snow. Starting at noon today until 9 p.m., the National Weather Service has issued an advisory for blowing snow, rain and sleet which could cause hazardous driving conditions.

A previous Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect for Palatine and Arlington Heights, but the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from noon until 9 p.m. tonight. Area residents should beware of heavy snow and blowing snow, with a mix of rain and sleet causing difficult travel and low visibility. Wind gusts are expected to reach up to 40 mph, and heavy snow is expected to affect the afternoon commute, according to the National Weather Service. This type of snow is referred to as heart attack snow, due to its weight and the National Weather Service advises people to use caution when shoveling. Caution is also encouraged while driving today. Palatine: Heavy Snow Late Thursday, Freezing Drizzle Friday A.M.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect starting at 9 p.m. Thursday until 6 p.m. Friday, prepare for slippery roads and limited visibility.

Here we go Palatine with another round of snow, wind gusts and slippery roads, as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect beginning at 9 p.m. tonight. Snow tonight is expected to be followed by heavy snow into late evening, with a snowfall rate of 1-inch per hour or more, according to the National Weather Service. Waking up Friday, commuters can expect freezing drizzle and treacherous, slippery conditions on the roads. Total accumulations are projected to be up to 6 inches of snow and a tenth of an inch of ice. Wind gusts will be between 30 and 35 miles per hour.
