Palatine Turkey Trot Draws Thousands

More than 2,200 adults and children turned out for the 32 annual Turkey Trot and Drumstick Dash Thanksgiving morning.

The 32nd annual Palatine Park District Turkey Trot drew more than 2,200 people on Thanksgiving morning at Harper College.  "We're just thrilled at the turnout today, this is such a goodwill event where the proceeds help to fund scholarships through the Palatine Park District Foundation," said Michael Clark, Palatine Park District executive director. Those scholarships ensure that park district residents experiencing difficult financial times can still be involved in the many programs offered.  Participants also were asked to being a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Palatine Township Food Pantry.  Planning of the event began close to a year ago, due in part to construction around Harper College, and the need to reconfigure the …

Turkey trotting in Palatine

The 30th annual Palatine Park District Turkey Trot drew more than 1,500 runners Thanksgiving morning.

With the prospect of a heavy dinner upon them, runners braved chilly temperatures Thanksgiving morning to participate in the 30th annual Palatine Park District Turkey Trot at Harper College. Why is the race so popular? "I think its the spirit of the event," said Palatine resident Ed Jacobi. "People can get some exercise before having a lot of turkey. It's a fun, family event." Jacobi's son, Andrew, was among those running in the five-mile race. Eight years ago as a high school freshman, Andrew ran in the two mile race. He finished about 24th out of several hundred runners. "I had never run a race before," Andrew said. The experience led him to join cross country and track. He later qualified for state in cross country as an individual. The…
