Chowdown Showdown: Best Burger In Palatine Results

The readers have spoken and have voted for The Lamplighter Inn as the best place to get a burger in Palatine.

The vote is in for this week’s Chowdown Showdown champion. Readers from Palatine Patch have spoken and picked their favorite spot for a burger. With 56 percent of the 286 votes, The Lamplighter Inn, 60 N. Bothwell St., is this week's champion. Congrats to The Lamplighter Inn! Lamplighter finished with 162 votes, edging Brandt's-The Little Cafe, 807 W. Northwest Highway, which finished with 100 votes. Bauer's Brauhaus, 45 W. Slade St., and T.J. O'Brien's, 53 W. Slade St., finished third and fourth respectively. All four establishments were nominated by Patch readers earlier this week.

Downtown Smokers Beware: Palatine To Begin Ticketing

Palatine will begin ticketing smokers who are standing too close to entrances of businesses.

Palatine will begin ticketing smokers who light up too close to a businesses entrance downtown. Palatine Village Manager Reid Ottesen said the village has continued to receive complaints related to smokers congregating in front of T.J. O'Brien's Bar and Grill, 53 W. Slade St. Ottesen said in April the village established a smoking area across from Slade Street, on the south side of the Metra tracks, and east of the firefighter's memorial. However, the area largely has gone unused. "Unfortunately it has come to this," Ottesen said, adding that in recent weeks he has received several complaints from people about smokers congregating on and blocking downtown sidewalks. I have to admit there are some interesting comments on here. Those who told me to tell my friends that Palatine is indeed a unfriendly town, you can tell your the people that make it that way. The point in my first comment that I was trying to make is people smoke upstairs at lamps, and right out the front door of pops.
