Clean Up of Former Citgo Property Downtown Continues

The Village of Palatine purchased the .37 acres of property at Plum Grove and Palatine Road in 2011, demolished the former gas station and has been dealing with environmental clean-up ever since.

The Village of Palatine Monday authorized $39,400 to continue environmental clean-up work at the corner of Plum Grove and Palatine Road, where the former Citgo gas station was located.  The property at 5 W. Speedy Citgo On Palatine Road Comes Down

The old Speedy Citgo gas station building at 5 W. Palatine Road has been demolished.

The old Speedy Citgo gas station building at Plum Grove Road and Palatine Road has been demolished. The village of Palatine purchased the 0.37 acre site at 5 W. Palatine Rd., for about $1.2 million. A portion of the purchase price, $450,000, was placed in an escrow account and will be used to deal with any environmental or clean up costs associated with the property. Palatine officials have not made any decision about the property's long-term future. Federal grant money was used to pay for part of the acquisition cost because it was a consequence of the Palatine Road construction project.
